There are racial differences in metabolism that explain why there are disproportionate obesity rates between the races at least in the US. Men are all being judged the same with regards to looks, despite some groups of men having to put more time and effort into their appearance than others. Fruit for example is now too sweet for many zoo animals to consume, yet other animals remain unaffected because of their higher metabolism.

2024-08-24 12:12:53 +0000 UTCHaving a child can make a father gain weight, it sure happened to me, and i suspect it was due to less sleep, more stress, less personal time etc. But also more love and refocussing on long-term perspectives. Hormonal readjustments. Might there be an evolutionary explanation too, eg a man will pad on some more fat in order to safeguard he can survive the cold winter?
