Lore: St. Gabriel: Library (part 2)

In the city of St. Gabriel stands an extraordinary library known as 'The Tower of Knowledge'. Located in the middle of the largest technological metropolis, this library was a monument to wisdom and progress, which survived several catastrophes and has endured thanks to the watchful eye of angels.

For several centuries, it remained in the shadows, guarded and protected from those who sought to abuse its power or use the knowledge for destructive purposes. Over time, it became such a large database that it was impossible to hide it from the public. That is why, although for many it is a simple public library, the few who have access to its entrails will find the largest compendium of knowledge that has survived.

The library is located in an imposing steel and glass tower that rises above the city, an island of tranquility in the midst of urban chaos. Its architecture is inspired by neo-Gothic architecture and took just over 75 years to build.  Its interior is a labyrinth of interconnected corridors, holographic data shelves and digital reading rooms. The library's collection spanned the history of humanity from its earliest days to the present era. As well as forbidden knowledge among the supernatural: Magic, classified secrets or forbidden rituals.

Undercover angels mixed with the visitors, adopting human appearances. Some are librarians, assistants or guides, while others simply observe from the shadows, keeping an eye out for any potential threat. Among the staff you can also find the some humans. People chosen with the utmost care and loyalty to the Church of St. Gabriel.

Thefts

Even if security is almost impenetrable the library has had several incidents and security breaches. At least three of them were big enough to be mentioned.

On several occasions its digital databases were broken into and a large amount of classified material was extracted. It took several years to erase the digital trail of everything that was leaked and there is still no guarantee that this knowledge will endure in written or oral form. In a way, it's a security that does.

As for the thefts, almost all were to extract collector's volumes or jewelry old enough to be worth enough money on the black market. Although such thefts weren't prevented, all the volumes were eventually recovered.

The most disturbing case, however, was when several shelves full of physical volumes of restricted knowledge were removed. These books weren't in the public domain, so the thieves were well aware of what they were doing and what kind of information they were handling. Behind this theft were the Transversal Special Forces, a paramilitary group dedicated to the persecution and extermination of demons. Coco Zhao, Doughy Hive, Zeta Kohut and Gabe Zhao, among other known criminals, also belonged to this organization. But after its dissolution, many of the books couldn't be recovered and their location is unknown.

En la ciudad de St. Gabriel se alza una biblioteca extraordinaria conocida como 'La Torre de los Conocimientos'. Ubicada en medio de la mayor metrópolis tecnológica, esta biblioteca era un monumento a la sabiduría y el progreso, que sobrevivió a varias catástrofes y ha perdurado gracias a la atenta vigilancia de los ángeles.

Durante varios siglos, permaneció en las sombras, vigilada y protegida de aquellos que intentaban abusar de su poder o usar el conocimiento para fines destructivos. Con el tiempo, se convirtió en una base de datos tan grande que era imposible ocultarla al público. Es por eso que, que aunque para muchos es una simple biblioteca pública, los pocos que tienen acceso a sus entrañas encontrarán el mayor compendiendo de conocimiento que ha sobrevivido.

La biblioteca está ubicada en una imponente torre de acero y vidrio, que se alza sobre la ciudad, una isla de tranquilidad en medio del caos urbano. Su arquitectura tiene inspiraciones en el neogoticismo y para construirla se tardó algo más de 75 años.  Su interior es un laberinto de pasillos interconectados, estantes de datos holográficos y salas de lectura digitales. La colección de la biblioteca abarcaba la historia de la humanidad desde sus primeros días hasta la era actual. Así como conocimientos prohibidos entre los sobrenaturales: Magia, secretos clasificados o rituales prohibidos.

Los ángeles encubiertos se mezclan con los visitantes, adoptando apariencias humanas. Algunos son bibliotecarios, asistentes o guías, mientras que otros simplemente observaban desde las sombras, manteniendo un ojo atento a cualquier amenaza potencial. Entre el personal también se puede encontrar algún que otro humano. Personas elegidas con sumo cuidado y su lealtad a la Iglesia de St. Gabriel.

Robos

Aún si la seguridad es casi impenetrable la biblioteca ha tenido varios incidentes y brechas de seguridad. Al menos tres de ellas fueron lo suficientemente grandes como para ser mencionadas.

En varias ocasiones asaltaron sus bases de datos digitales pudiendo extraer una gran cantidad de material clasificado. Se tardó varios años en borrar el rastro digital de todo lo que se filtró y aún no se puede garantizar que ese conocimiento perdure de forma escrita u oral. En cierto modo, es una seguridad que así lo hace.

En cuanto a los robos, casi todos fueron para extraer volúmenes de coleccionista o joyas lo suficientemente antiguas para vale bastante dinero en el mercado negro. Aunque dichos robos no fueron evitados, todos los volúmenes fueron recuperados con el tiempo.

Aunque el caso más perturbador fue cuando se extrajeron varias estanterías repletas de volúmenes físicos con conocimientos restringidos. Estos libros no eran de dominio público, por lo que los ladrones eran bien conscientes de lo que hacían y qué tipo de información manejaban. Detrás de este robo se encontraban Las Fuerzas Especiales Trasversales, un grupo paramilitar que se dedicaba a la persecución y exterminio de demonios. A esta organización también pertenecían Coco Zhao, Doughy Hive, Zeta Kohut y Gabe Zhao, entre otros conocidos criminales. Pero tras su disolución, muchos de los libros no pudieron recuperarse y se desconoce dónde se encuentran.
