Hi friends!
As I've been widening the scope of the stories I tell on "F*cked Up Fairy Tales," I've been searching for ways to responsibly share stories that fall outside my cultural experience. On a recent popular video, a TikTok user suggested I donate a portion of monetary gains from my stories to an organization that supports the people whose story I've shared. I think this is a great idea, and I'm excited to make my first donation!
Each month, I'll donate 1/3 of my funds for that month towards a charity that represents an underserved population whose stories I borrowed. I picked "one third" because the number three is such a popular motif in fairy tales. To choose the charity, I'll look to my most popular diverse story that month. In October, "The Corpse Bride" video got a lot of attention, so I'm donating my charitable portion to The Jewish Alliance of Greater Rhode Island.
If I ever rejoin the Creator Fund on TikTok, I'll likely use that money for my charitable portion, but for now I will use Patreon funds.
I'll be sharing the group I pick here, as well as making a video to share the receipts on TikTok.
