The stat triangle conundrum

I've been racking my brain, and the brains of those I know, to figure out a solution to the stat triangle. For weeks.

You'd think it would be fairly simple-- Gunbunny has 3 primary stats: Regen, Defense, and Attack. She also makes energy which can be allocated...

In the pause menu you will be able to set just how much of her energy goes into boosting each of these 3 stats-- by adding to her attack damage, reducing the damage she takes from enemies, or storing it for powering special abilities.

This will be set in a simple triangle diagram, where you place a cursor within the triangle and it allocates your power in ratios according to the stats it is closest to. This way you can balance exactly how you want things to be to suit your style of gameplay or change things around for different areas or enemies.


Seems simple enough. But the math, no matter how we try to figure it out, is just clunky and does not give the results I want.

We've tried it with percentages and distances and other geometric math but it just doesn't seem to work. I feel like there is a really simple way to do it that is just eluding us. There has to be.


Anyways, it's taking a lot of time. If anyone has ideas, I'd be glad to hear them.

If you want to have the user click into the triangle to set the three stats, dont meassure the distance to the three corners but the opposing sides. For example there is a stat at corner A where the point M is 0 units from the side a, so the stat is at 0. There should be math-functions to meassure that distances.

Facilize

Have sliders. One on each side of the triangle. As a slider is increased by 2 points, the other two decrease 1 pt each. Then have the triangle itself serve as a graphic representation of the stats.
