Speed dash

I promised myself I wouldn't stay up until 4am playing with goddamn Unreal Engine but I did. And I made speed dash with energy trails. The effect will need some tweaking but the mechanics are there.

So we're thinking Strider Hiryu? He can hold onto a wall temporarily to help him reach high points with no platforms. Felicia in Darkstalkers also has the ability to cling to a wall surface if you jump and then press towards the wall. In Ninja Gaiden 3 especially, your player ninja can bounce back and forth at speed between wall surfaces to get higher access points. Would that be from start or, like Castlevania: we'll have to explore and level Aurora up before she can do it? You could give Marie it from the start say, to make her feel like a stronger character. In Nocturne in the Moonlight, Maria Renard came with a triple jump, boost jump and variety of magical spells from the get-go for example. When you said gravity Boots I was thinking there of Castlevania which allowed Alucard on pressing down then up+jump: to boost a good five times his normal jump height, would Gunner learn this do you think or keep it just to allow her to cling to walls? Magnetron Boots might be better suited as two separate upgrades. One lets her attach to objects, the other greater height boost

Interaction with walls and basic melee attacks are next. She will have a wall jump, so she can jump up between walls or pillars, and a gravity boots upgrade that lets her stick to the wall/not slide down. Also yes, she needs to be able to push things; that will give us room to build unique puzzles and obstacles. The speed dash will make her invulnerable to environmental damage like fire, lava, steam, etc, in addition to giving her access to hidden areas that require a longer but not higher jump distance.

Heh that's cool. Are you thinking on giving her a crouching dash too like a slide? When she touches an object you could have her press against it like she's trying to push the object aside. Give her a bit more character. In Blood Omen, Kain could push only small boulders at first but as the game progressed, so he could move larger ones. Would Gunner have something similar to help her find secret items, power ups and so on?
