It is yet another based on a story by that master of the genre, Zane Grey. His story “West of the Pecos” had a gender bending element in it with the heroine pretending to be a man, but rather than rewriting the story with the change turned about, here is more or less a sequel to that story. I am fairly sure “West of the Pecos” was a movie too?

Maryanne, the 1946 adaptation of West of the Pecos is notable for Robert Mitchum playing Peco and Barbara Hale (Della Street in the original Perry Mason series) as Rill. They’re both in their 20s and gorgeous.
