I’m on a fixed income, which is not great, but I can avoid Amazon. I despise Bezos.

You live a block away TJ’s and Target? I live about 4 blocks from TJ’s and 8 blocks from Target (and Sprouts, and ‘Whore Fools’. I almost always walk to TJ’s and Sprouts (I rarely go to Target, and I never go to ‘Whore Fools’; fuck Bezos and his anti-unionism). Unless you have a disability, why don’t you spend some time WALKING (exercise) while LISTENING TO THIS PODCAST — and/or anything else you might listen to?

I’m going to speak on behalf of David and say HELL YES! I would literally pay for this? We have an unusually hectic December for family reasons but would love to follow up with you about it in the new year. Thank you for the extremely kind offer!!

There aren’t constant delivery fees with Amazon Fresh. It’s one annual fee for Amazon prime, and then all orders over a certain amount get free delivery and you get Prime Video, Amazon Music, and Prime delivery from Amazon included for no additional cost. If you want to order smaller amounts then you can pay $10 a month for unlimited deliveries. If you qualify for SNAP EBT benefits, Amazon Prime and Fresh subscriptions are half price. That makes Amazon Prime about the same monthly cost as a subscription to this Patreon.

Bobby Simpson

A lot of people can’t afford the constant delivery fees so yeah a lot of us still go to grocery stores

I absolutely do go to Costco for one or two items sometimes. I park wayyyyyy in the back where no one likes to park. Easy peasy

@Mark P: Omg, I love this! Will share with my sweetheart, who will undoubtedly get a chuckle out of it. (Side note: I’m a fan of all things Australian: Clarke & Dawe, Muriel’s Wedding which I’ve seen 10+ times, Peter Weir, Cate Blanchett, Australian Open tennis, and on and on. 🙂)

Since MORBIOUS has become nearly mythic in its status, especially among the Filmcast community, I guess I should finally watch it…??

Nah sell it

Costco is awesome, I went today. My wife and I also enjoy going every other week or so. Great organic products, snacks, grass fed beef, Pasture raised eggs all at a fraction of the costs of normal grocery stores. Same goes for toilet paper, paper towels etc. it’s fun going through and seeing new products and the sales each month.

Wil Johnson

Recently saw Morbius essentially just so I could listen to the review and ended up listening to the full episode again. Few interesting things. 1. Jeff wondered when Will Smith would slap someone in a movie and Dave guessed a few years. Seems that played out in Bad Boys 2. Dave did you ever watch The Sting? 3. Jeff really needs to watch Atlanta

Wil Johnson

I’m new to Bluesky and following Dave but I don’t see any “skeets” recently about Costco on his account.

also shorthand for “I can’t be fucked cooking dinner tonight” if you have kids.

You guys still go to grocery stores? I live within a block from a Trader Joe’s and a Target, but I use delivery from Whole Foods and Instacart. It costs a few bucks per order, it’s better for the environment to have one delivery person making multiple deliveries, and it saves me a massive amount of my time over the course of a month. If you simply value your time at a decent hourly rate, it’s simply not worth it. Now, if you go for the joy, sure, but I’d much rather dedicate my finite time to something else.

Bobby Simpson

Almost getting married at a Costco. What a country. It’s the most American thing I’ve heard since Dan Ryckert got married at a Taco Bell.

Jonathan

The rotisserie chicken, or the bachelor’s handbag as we call it in Australia

If Dave and his wife ever want a tour of the Costco home office in Issaquah, I am more than happy to arrange it, it is where I work! One Costco secret is they use the same pumpkin pie filling that everyone else does, but they purchase the #10 cans needed the year prior. Apparently, it ages in the can and makes for a better pie. I encourage everybody to stock up the year before of all Libby's you need, if making your own. My tip for shopping at Costco is to stick with items that will not consume more of, just because you have it on hand. Stick to basics like paper goods, household cleaners/laundry supplies, olive oil and butter (which freezes just fine). Avoid snacks at all cost. JC

My all-time favorite game is Cthulhu Death May Die. I love the theme, but the best thing, imo, is the game mechanic. As your character goes more insane, they increase their power. However, go insane too much and you will die. It's a great balancing act. There are a ton of different characters with different abilities. Lizzie Borden, Rasputin, Albert Einstein (from a Kickstarter promo). Such great fun and replayability.

Jerry Mudd

What a great birthday party! Was there a person at the door checking IDs / Receipts?? 😁

Jerry Mudd

My favorite benefits from a Costco membership are the super cheap food court items (namely hot dogs and pizza slices), and their cheaply priced gas.

Stranger2Reality

I’m trying hard to remember a time when the opinion was so resoundingly split 2:1 against Dave, with Dave as the sole proponent, and where Dave also happened to be correct. While I may not have considered Costco as a wedding venue, my wife threw me a surprise Costco-themed 40th birthday party complete with an entire fake Costco Connection magazine about me and a cake from their bakery reading “Happy Birthday Ben. On behalf of Costco Wholesale you are officially our favorite member.”

Do not just give away a $5000 TV. Sell it even if it’s for way less.

David Esposito

And Jeff, there’s a Costco near Santa Fe and Hampden. Large parking lot. Easy access to both main roads. There’s really no excuse to not visit 😉

AF

We hung Govee lights up and around our household and absolutely love them. We change up the colors monthly. Right now it’s an autumn theme of oscillating oranges and yellows. Tomorrow we’ll change it up to Red and White through the end of the year for Christmas. Much more inexpensive than the professional install but hides away just as easily. They’ve got a Black Friday special going on now too, I believe.

AF

Jeff could quickly sell his tv to a pawn shop.

The power went out in much of the Seattle area due to a windstorm last week, so Dave was caught in the double rush of Thanksgiving and people who needed to restock everything in their fridge.

John Meyer

For disposing of TV thing — you can call the city and have them pick it up. It’s free (At least in LA)

Fredrick Leach

I'll get you my pretty, with my little dog too!

For me this year, like last year, it's a couple board games that I'm keeping an eye out for. the local one does black friday and boxing day for 20% off basically everything plus some clearance deals but only on the day. So i've been studying the pricing trends the last few days so I know what a good deal will be. But unlike last year Im not going to be dropping almost $350 CAD. I found new board game people to play with and just between 3 of them they basically have any game I'm interested in. If you have favourites, feel free to share them :) Devindra talking about now is the best time for TVs and getting an OLED, true! also around the Super Bowl it clearance time, new ones come in around March/April so if you need time to save up, you can. My thing is headphones, and just audio in general is like this too, some brands have notoriously high prices but do get big discounts too, Sennheiser is a reliable one for that, often 30-50% off during black friday.

Jacob Chimilar

We justified our embedded light purchase as adding value to the house and to offset the costs of having professional installers come every year. Plus because they’re up all year, the “cost per night” was agreeable. I hate the UX on the app but otherwise, it’s great.

Which brand are the lights?

Rico

Funny, I'm also originally from Alabama and I also started listening when Kevin Smith was on (Watchmen I think?).

Grant Cosper

Dave, you may have neglected to mention one of the most outstanding benefits from a visit to Costco: bringing home an irresistible, delicious rotisserie chicken, bought at an absurdly low price. My partner and I get one (or even two!) every time we make our pilgrimage to Costco, and we eat that bird for several days and in a variety of ways: sandwiches, soups, adding it to noodle dishes, etc. [Interesting analysis of Costco’s rotisserie-chicken sales strategy here: https://thehustle.co/the-economics-of-costco-rotisserie-chicken.] HAPPY THANKSGIVING, guys!

CDMatthew

Aaaaah! Early after dark! Happy Thanksgiving (from Aus)
