Dear Patreons,
I hope you all are well and off to some happy holidays.
Currently I myself am sitting in a bus, on my way to Copenhagen to celebrate Christmas with my family. It’s been a wild ride these past months, but the dust seems to finally have settled.
The other day I finished my last freelance assignment of the year, so I’m now free to turn my sight to other things.
Yesterday I released a little documentary segment of myself talking about my beginnings with animation. It was filmed as part of a documentary called “Nørd Livet”, set to hit Danish television in 2017. Of course I don’t know how much of the footage with me will actually be used in the final thing, but this little bit was for me to use however I liked.
The video is in Danish with English subtitles… I was positively surprised at how few got confused by this, though I certainly don’t intend to make a habit out of that setup.
Feeling in a bit of a nostalgic mood I have plans to release all of the independently produced animations I’ve ever worked on thus far in one extended cut before the end of the year. It’s been 6-7 years of me enjoying this medium so far and I’ve gotten to grow a lot along the way, which might be fun to observe. I will be cutting and fast forwarding a few things for the sake of your viewing pleasure though. The whole thing is a little over and hour in length.
If I can get the technical aspects to work I’d also like to hold a livestream somewhere between Christmas and New Year, viewing and commenting on this extended cut – sharing some stories about the production and answering any questions that may come up. Hopefully it’ll make for a cozy experience!
On the Tales of Zale front we have now reached a point where everything I had made rough animations for has been cleaned up and for the most part colored. A lot of this is thanks to Nathan Paul (KameStudios) who’s been a tremendous help, as well as a good bunch of my school comrades who have joined in where they could.
Now all that’s left is for me to get down to some animating!
Before I get too far ahead of myself with that though, I have decided to make a couple of changes to the animatic in it’s current form. Throughout the past couple of months I’ve been reaching out to some great storytellers in the industry and gotten feedback from them on the current animatic, and I’ve gotten some things to chew on. By no means does this mean that any of the currently animated shots are going to be wasted, as I was very careful with picking some shots that I felt very strongly about to animate. What it does mean though is that I’m going to take a bit of time to reflect and research before deeming the animatic “final”. In the meanwhile production can continue on the more locked down parts of the episode.
It all should go towards creating a meaningful product in the end!
This will not be the end of my posts this month, so I’ll wait with wishing you all a great New Year. In the meanwhile I hope you have some happy holidays though!
