Pledging in Euros (€), British Pounds (£) or U.S. Dollars ($)
Added 2020-08-06 17:58:18 +0000 UTCHi everyone,
I wanted to share some good news. Everyone in the UK, EU and U.S. can now pledge my Patreon in their local currency of Euros (€), British Pounds (£) or U.S. Dollars ($). This will help prevent you paying extra conversion fees from your bank or card when pledging in a currency that’s not your own.
Any new visitors to my page will see my tiers priced in their local currency of €, £, or $. For those of you who would like to switch your preferred currency you can follow these steps:
- On Patreon.com, hover over your avatar in the top right of your screen.
- Click Manage memberships.
- Find this page, and click Edit.
- Under Currency, choose your preferred currency.
- Click Update to save your settings.
For those of you outside of these currencies, you’ll continue to see your pledge priced in my currency.
Check out this help center article if you have questions about changing your currency, or this article if you have questions about how tiers are priced in these new currencies.

Thanks, I will pass this feedback on to patreon.

So the Patron does not avoid high conversion fees from their banks/Paypal/..., but instead pays an even higher conversion fee to Patreon. Part of which flows back to the creator, so at least there's that. But in essence, it's a scheme of Patreon to collect the conversion fees that would normally flow to an external party, with the side effect of making subscriptions more expensive for everyone. An 14% increase can quickly add up if you support a lot of creators.

2020-08-07 07:58:32 +0000 UTCActually, I just checked what Paypal charges for conversion. The $5 tier + 21% Belgian VAT comes out at $6.06, for which Paypal charges me €5.33. If I switch to Euro, I would pay €5 + 21% VAT = €6.06. An increase of 13.7% over what I *actually* pay now.
