Namjoon was dealing with a lot of hate, criticism and death threats during 2016-2017. It wasn't an easy time for bts. That's why he couldn't bring himself to perform on stage that one time because he was stressed out and becoming mentally drained. Rise of bangtan showed that in one of their episodes and had more context explaining what happened.
