Ballroom was created as a response to the racism within white gay communities and was used as a safe space for Black and Brown queer people. Along with voguing - which refers to the dance - there were different elements such as runway and face. I'd recommend watching clips of Leiomy as she's considered one of the most influential members of ballroom recently.
