Thoughts on the Black Mirror future Noel was talking about: personally I don't think the idea of niche communities and the death of celebrities is a bad thing, it's just natural. Of course having cult classic movies that defined generations and everyone has seen (e.g. Superbad) is cool n all, but it's a lil rose tinted. What about all the shit movies Hollywood churned out trying to imitate better films? Back when monolithic companies like Warner Bros were the only ones making movies people went to see them because that was their only option, shitty movies would make bank. Now that the internet has made it easier for people to get involved you can see more perspectives and styles, things these companies are too scared to try. I think a good example would be LGBT+ representation, companies were scared of acknowledging it back in the day for fear of backlash, but now queer folks can represent themselves without any malarkey. Idk I think a decentralised more personal mediashpere would be a good thing -- the idea of *everyone* thinking the same movie is good and "aw dude you have to like it it defined a generation" sounds more dystopian to me. Soz for the block of text

to add on to the whole “black mirror future” topic: I work for an architectural firm and we recently were tasked with designing and building a prototype add on section for Walmart and Amazon stores. The new section is basically a facility where a robot on tracks gets your groceries for you and all you have to do is pull up and receive what you ordered in plastic bins. Amazon and Walmart were hesitant to start implementing these facilities but Covid has moved things along faster. Basically Walmart and Amazon are predicting that in 10 years, going and physically walking through a grocery store will be a thing of the past
