Ep 177 - Big Willy Wonderland

we're about to enter the golden era of tiny meat

Comments

When they first “Penuma” I thought they were stupidly pronouncing pneumonia🤣

You guys mention the mansion in Nola that Nic Cage bought and then joke about bad luck from another purchase. I actually visited the mansion he used to own in the French Quarter. It’s down the road from the house his uncle Francis Ford Coppola owned when he was growing up, and is well known by locals to be cursed. Every person who has owned it and spent any time there has lost their fortune. The story as to why is pretty fascinating and grisly. Long story short it was owned by the wealthiest socialite of a period long since past, she lived there with her much younger husband and they tortured and murdered slaves before being found out and driven out of the country so she would die as a pauper. Historically no one has owned the mansion for long, and Nicolas Cage lost it himself when he went bankrupt soon after purchasing it. Google LaLaurie Mansion. Heavy stuff.

@bambimaryjane

right?

Allison

Big brain idea: Nicolas Cage arch NFT.

Anton brandt pedersen

why are the majority comments on all the pods so rude no ones forcing you to pay and watch/listen lmao

Lmao you should feel some shame about eating meat.

the part about the cow killed me 😭

Opening weekend for Willy was less than 100k and less than 400k total gross🤯😂😂

Ok but Cecil is the PERFECT baby cow name

It's also important to note that there is a significant price difference when you are talking about Wagyu. For example, the highest grading on beef in North America is PRIME. The price of a whole PRIME graded striploin would range anywhere from $12 to $20/LB (CDN) - while the price of a whole Japanese WAGYU striploin would be around $120 to $150/LB (CDN).

James Clark

Hey TMG and non-vegans, Full-time meat supplier here and I just want to quickly breakdown Japanese Wagyu. This is a Japanese breed of cattle (1 of 4 sourced in Japan), similar to how North American beef is often marketed as Angus, another standard breed. There are many restaurants that claim to sell Japanese Wagyu beef, when it is actually just well marbled(fatty) beef sourced elsewhere. The birth certificate is essentially to prove that the restaurant isn't "cheating", as Japanese Wagyu cuts of beef are all shipped with their stamped certificates. The birth certificate confirms that you are eating 100% Japanese Wagyu beef that was truly sourced from Japan. I hope this helps!

James Clark

Wagyu is a breed you idiot. 😂

Watch “Layer Cake” it’s like I Care a Lot but actually good

as soon as i heard the name jason sudeikas i knew what was coming...

I wonder if people spend a lot of time considering the entire supply chain of the food industry every time they sit down for a meal. Is that normal? It seems decidedly abnormal to me. Strange, in fact, if you are in a social situation where you are expected to be adding to an ongoing conversation, right? That's not to say that you should never consider where your food comes from, but at the actual table? Of course you should be mindful about what food you put in your mouth and how it got to your table, that is a part of gratitude, but let's not over do it, people. So, I would agree with Cody. It would be a bit jarring to have this brought up during your meal, (whether it is normal for this meal or not) when you were not expecting it.

Matty Matheson actually said this on his most recent podcast with Andrew Santino

Will

Showing certificate is standard for Wagyu. It’s not out of the ordinary at all. People familiar with ordering waygu will ask to see certificate before ordering in order to ensure they are getting the real deal. Definitely is a weird thing to most Americans or those who are not accustomed to it. Matty Matheson says he will only order Waygu if he can see the certificate first

Will

I watched the war with grandpa bc it was the only movie in theatres and it was the worst experience of my life

Noel and Cody are just the new Ebert and Roeper, change my mind

I'm just as old as you guys and I love your humor. Literally the same type of shit that makes me laugh with my wife and my friends. You don't get too old for it, you're just boring if you don't like it . Also on the wagyu stuff, really fucking weird on the birth certificate thing. It must be a weird power thing, especially if the server is also telling you about the breaking the legs and massaging it to get the flavor, something that you researched and quickly found to be a lie. idk how that makes it sound better, but Bobby Billionaire probably gets a kick out of it. Ironically, Wagyu cows are probably some of the best taken care of cows in the world, hence the great flavor/quality. Happy animals make great food.

Michael Santos

You seem upset

Avery C

🙌

It's been touched on, but as a meat consumer you gotta be more cognizant of what goes into your food. You shouldn't be willingly ignorant of the slaughter of the animal that produced your dinner, you should be as informed as possible on it and if it bothers you, cut down. I'm not saying go vegan or anything nuts, humans are fully capable of eating healthy amounts of meat, but you could at least find out your restaurants'/ butcher's policies/ grading processes. No hate, it's no flaw to any human to be ignorant, I don't expect anyone to be an expert on anything, but I'd suggest thinking a bit more in the future is all. Great pod, this is one of my favs in a while

Luke Ryba

These recent pods have banged stupidly

Noah Youngblood

This one had me rolling holy fuck. Cody ur so fuckin awesome for being grossed out by the meat hahahah ur an angel

Lindsey

I don't get why being shown the birth certificate of the cow that died for the stake that was on your plate ruined your meal. Your waiter coming out with the steak, you picking up a knife and fork, cutting it and then eating the steak is already a constant reminder of the fact that a cow had to endure pain, suffering and death for you to enjoy the taste of its dead flesh. Is it just the fact that there are so many degrees of separation between the cow that died and what's on your plate that adding a more "personal" touch to it (the cows birth certificate) really hit home? If so I just think thats a weird way of really remembering how it got to your plate. Please don't take this as me hating on you Cody. I've loved this pod and your content ever since I first saw them and will continue to do so. Love from 🇮🇲

Doesn’t like fat, gets wagyu

Avery C

dude idk why but the way cody says "what" at 50:13 is the funniest shit ive ever heard
