Hey, im from Melbourne Australia, and the reasons we got so low vaccinations, is because of misleading info in my opinion. Also we have really low stock of it. Austra zeneca giving people blood clots is scaring people and shit like that. Pfiza is reserved for older people 50+ or medical professionals. Also dying from the vaccine is not covered by life insurance. That could also be a factor. Its a fucking pain in the ass even if you wanted to get the vaccine. The vaccine system here sucks. Also the lockdowns are designed to stop the spread by locking down for a week, but its gotten all fucked up because of nsw cases which are spiralling out of control. And another thing, australias total population is less that the total population of los angeles, so its harder to compare to america

Travelling to Australia is currently restricted but if you do get a chance to come down once the restrictions have ended, strongly recommend coming to Queenslad (where I live) as covid has been almost non existent apart from a few small lockdowns to deal with small breakouts. Some pretty cool stuff up in Far North QLD like Airlie beach and the Whitsundays P.S. lockdowns are controlled by each state not the federal government, thats why some states are chill and others shit has hit the fan

I’m in Sydney - this is 2nd/3rd lockdown (first one lasted about two months in March 2020 - May 2020, second one was for a few weeks in December 2020 but that was only for the Northern Beaches, the third one is happening now and it’s approaching two months). Melbourne is in their 7th or so lockdown and from what I know, two of those lockdowns lasted months whereas the rest were shorter. The other cities/states all vary. Up until now Melbourne sadly has had it the worst, but if things keep going the way it is in Sydney for a few more months then we’ll def be up there as well. As others have already said in comments before me, the federal government really messed up the vaccine rollout. Yes there is vaccine hesitancy and it’s probably roughly 20-40% of people who are anti-vax (similar to the U.S. and other western countries). The rest of the 60-80% of us want the friggin vax but we can’t get it yet 🥲🥲

I'm living in Sydney. The reason the vaccination levels are so low here are because the federal government fucked up ordering vaccines. They only ordered Astrazenica and that can cause blood clots in young people and people have died so wet dying wasn't that. As for Pfizer the amount they ordered was so low that they can only give it to a small amount of people. Melbourne locks down as soon as there are any cases because it stops the spread. So while they're in their 6th lock down they are typically very short.

hey, from melbourne here - basically just supporting what all the other aussies are saying. I think the reason we are so fed up with lockdowns, especially in melb, is that we literally had over 150 days in a row in lockdown towards the end of last year. and keeping in mind this was off the back of the initial panic lockdown most of the world took part in in late march. that lasted months itself so the continuous small lockdowns are pretty disheartening and probably not great for small business. i’m a younger person too, i graduated high school in 2020 and i haven’t been able to hold down a job since all the lockdowns, as have many of my mates. our fed governments a bumbling mess and we are all just trying to live our lives whilst the politicians stay hypocritical and a small percent of the people ruin the harmony of a state trying to work together to not get lockdown again.

Hi legends, I live in Sydney, Australia and basically the federal government stuffed up the vaccine rollout! Because we had been covid-free for so long, they did not order an adequate supply of vaccines (to my knowledge) and then we had a huge outbreak in Sydney and shit hit the fan :~) people under 40 weren't even able to sign up for a vaccine until about a month ago and all we have is astra-zeneca and Pfizer and the backlog is insane. I'm from Melbourne and currently in the 6th lockdown, but they don't go for very long, maybe a couple of weeks at most. Still enough to disrupt everyone's life, though. It's not that people don't want to get vaccinated, it's that we dont have the supply. Nobody wants to get AZ because it's not the most effective, so everyone is pretty much waiting to get Pfizer. But the government aren't letting people under 40 get Pfizer because of low supply, so unless you have a chronic health issue or an old person you're SOL. It's also kind of a pain in the ass, because you need to find a doctor who is administering Pfizer and make an appointment, which might be a month out. Luckily (or maybe, unluckily) I do have a chronic health issue and have managed to get my first dose of Pfizer. As for long term strategies to deal with covid, the government has no idea what theyre going to do. There is no long term plan. They have said that at 75% vaccination rate we can be open again but nobody knows how long that's going to take. I am just trying to do my part because desperate to travel again, I haven't seen my American boyfriend since Feb 2020.

Congrats on 200!!! Re: Australia vaccination Basically what everyone above has said. The Delta is here but we have very low vaccination rates. Rn it isnt because of the anti-vaxxers, its because the government wasnt able to secure adequate supply of vaccines quickly enough. In NSW (Sydney) and in most states, under 40's still havent been offered the vaccine. There arent enough vaccines to meet the demand right now. Im sure the anti-vaxxer problem will become apparent at the end of the year when everyone that wants a vaccine has one but at the moment people who want to get vaccinated cant. Hopefully we will be out of this soon so cody can come and surf🤣

australia is pretty well off with covid in terms of case numbers, but the actual opinions/state of affairs is in shambles tbh. i believe the reason alot of us don't want to the vaccine is because of misinformation. like everywhere else, things change by the day, and you're not sure what to do. the media aren't 100% transparent about possible dangers, but then on the other side you have your 45 year old white uncle who calls you "dr. google" whenever you look something up, on facebook sharing posts from people as dumb as him talking about how people are going to start deforming into creatures like ephialtes, the inbred from 300 by zack snyder. it also doesn't help that our main vaccine has been linked with blood clots. while they are rare, it does feel odd that states with 0.0002% of the population having covid are going into lockdown, but the government dismisses the blood clots 0.0006% as "rare and nothing to worry about". they're closing down carnival events because the 5,000 person limit just isn't viable, but letting 15,000 people into sports arenas to watch football matches. there just isn't any consistency.

Your government actually did it right and got it out to everyone as quick as possible because they had to (since COVID was everywhere). Since we had been on an elimination path for so long our government was very lazy in implementing the rollout and as of June we only had 4% of the population fully vaccinated. It's up to 15% now and the long term goal is to have as many people as possible vaccinated but the recent lockdown hasn't managed to slow down the Delta variant and we are basically stuck in lockdown until vaccination numbers can catch up. As far as the protests that's very much the minority. People are upset and criticising the government but the protests were openly ridiculed for being dumb cunts who were making it harder for the rest of us. They were organised by some online conspiracy group based in Germany who have organised protests in a bunch of other countries too and they just picked up a bit of steam but we haven't had protests in weeks now. I'm lucky enough to be fully vaccinated because I got access via my mum being a nurse in a public hospital but even now it is a pain for people to get the vaccine they want, since the government has been pushing Astra Zeneca so hard and there has been problems with that one compared to Pfizer and Moderna
