with the super league they want to make a league where there is no relegation or promotion so there's no real competition we have the champions league which is the tournament where the top teams of each European league play each other so there's no reason to make the super league its only for money each team was guaranteed 452 million just by entering the league it takes away from the competitions that give lower division clubs chances to win major tournaments like the FA cup and Copa del Rey. its most likely not gonna go through because the fans are not going to let their clubs that they've watched and loved go into a league that takes away competition and the quote that's being used to go against this proposition is "created by the poor stolen by the rich"

The situation was pretty bad based on how it seemed to be planned because everyone thought the teams would break off from their national leagues to form this NBA style European league which would’ve killed the footballing pyramid of leagues essentially in all of Europe. Since the big teams in those leagues bring in most of the revenue from tv deals, if they broke off they would severely lower profits for the rest of the teams and the leagues and the teams in lower leagues since the premier league (English) league uses some of the revenue to help finance teams who struggle in lower league. Staying in England a lot of the teams specially in the lower leagues as the central hub of many of their communities so if they went bust it would be a culture shock for them. The plan ended up falling apart like two days after it was announced when the 6 English teams left the competition not because they cared about their fans and the rest of their leagues but because UEFA (the corrupt dudes I mentioned earlier) gave them a way out by giving them an “incentive” to return. The Spanish teams and the Italian teams that stayed essentially had no way of following through so the plan fell through. Anyways the whole situation basically is a philosophical debate about which of lesser two evils you should take. Uefa won but they’re changing their competition in 2024 and removed some of meritocracy of qualifying for the tournament so football was saved from one group of greedy people but stayed in the hands of another group of greedy people.

Just in case Noel or Cody or anyone else has an interest in the super league part they spoke about. Essentially the biggest golden rule of soccer/football specially in Europe is that it’s a meritocracy. So you can get relegated to a lower division or promoted to a higher division based on your footballing merit. The pinnacle of this is the champions league where usually the 1-4th of top leagues teams and the champions of some lesser leagues qualify for every year. Winning that is essentially saying you’re the best team in Europe and the world. It has its issues specially with what the organizing body UEFA give the teams in prizes and the organization as a whole is pretty sketchy. So 15 of the top teams in Europe essentially wanted to make an American style league where those 15 teams did not need to qualify for or could get relegated from. They wanted to invite 5 more teams based on merits but it wasn’t enough for almost every fan of a European team and hell basically broke loose. The day of the announcement was probably the most chaotic day in Europe since like Hitler invaded Germany.
