Episode 81 - Your Mixtape Gave Me Chlamydia

Ik this is late as I’m just now catching up with all the pods but I go to UNCC where the shooting happened this past April. I was studying for my chem and calc finals in the library when a big ass group of people ran across the area I was at. The first thing that came to my mind was “aw this better not be what the fuck I think it is” and sure enough it was. The library got locked down and we were all just hiding in the book shelves and under desks not knowing what the fuck was going on. I genuinely forgot what true fear felt like. Luckily for us tho the shooter was in the courtyard next to the building, a friend of mine actually saw the shooter headed towards his building where other people were hiding before campus police got to him. Shits fucked man and I hope it doesn’t happen again this semester.

I go to school in Connecticut and my high school had so many scary things happen. My freshman year of high school (I’m a freshman in college now) some kid called in a bomb threat. They wouldn’t let us out of the building and I was literally sitting in my English class trying to text my mom because we all thought something horrible was going to happen. My senior year of high school some kid posted on his Snapchat that “all the teachers are going to regret what they’ve said to me tomorrow” or something and that everyone should “watch out”. They arrested the kid but my friends and I took the next day off school just to be safe because his girlfriend still goes there. We also had an incident junior year where everyone thought it was an active shooter drill (they had told everyone they were planning one for that day which is so stupid) but it turned out someone had actually called in a threat. We all thought the announcements they said over the speakers were fake (like saying it was a real lockdown, etc.) because we knew they had a drill planned. Luckily no one actually came onto the school grounds with weapons or anything but if they did we all would’ve been fucked because even the teachers thought it was just a drill. They even let us out of our classrooms to go the next period when they weren’t supposed to do it really would’ve been awful had someone really done what they said they were going to.

I went to high school in the west side of chicago and one day we got a bomb threat and this was before school started so they had all of us wait outside in the field for 2 hours till they cleared it and its weird because at the moment it felt like nothing because where we all grew up like shootings and stuff are so normal that this was just an inconvenience. anyway being teenage assholes we all jumped the fence and ditched school because Chicago PD was taking a while clearing it , it was cold as hell and raining , and they wouldnt let us go home because our school was in trouble for attendance ??? yeah fuck chicago public schools

i go to uga and we recently had an incident where a kid was standing waiting for the bus and him and his friend were shot bc he was wearing airpods. another incident a few months ago where a loaded rifle was found in some bushes on campus. thank God nothing came from that. it's scary to think that a school like uncc just had a shooting and they're less than 3 hours from us. it makes you think about the people that you interact with and how accessible guns are to the wrong people. thanks for having an open conversation. i respect you guys a lot

my sophomore year of high school there was some kid who was one of my classes who “forgot to take his meds” or whatever who like threatened to shoot up the school and had a hit list with a bunch of kids from my class on it, so basically we were all freaking tf out and like running to admin and our on campus officer like trying to warn them and idk it was nuts and eventually they suspended the kid for like an entire quarter and deducted that he didn’t take his adhd meds or something along those lines....either way like shit was terrifying and i’m just lucky our admin actually paid attention instead of pretending it didn’t exist bc like credible or not a threats a threat

oh yeah also there was a bomb threat on my ELEMENTARY school when I was like 9 on election day 2012. We found out later there was no real danger but all 2,000 ELEMENTARY students had to evacuate to a local catholic school. I had to ride in a police car because my ankle was broken at the time and we saw parents lining up as the kids walked out to make sure they were ok and not blown up. I'd say even a bomb THREAT is an act of terrorism. Elementary school kids shouldn't have to worry about their schools getting shot up or blown up. And that's why my school district has off on election day now.

my freshman year of highschool we had a credible shooting threat. a week before, a middle schoolers had brought a gun to school to show his friend. the threat was put on all of the public school ipad calendars, and they made classes optional. i remember my mom forcing me to go to school and i just cried the whole way as she drove me because i didn’t feel safe in my own high school. it was terrifying. i’m from new hampshire and sandy hook had happened the year before, as did the marathon bombing. just the fear going through my head that this could happen to me and my mother was making me still go because she believed it wasn’t credible sticks with me every single day. i’m in college now about an hour north of University of Texas Austin, and i constantly just think about their shooting from the bell tower and what i would do if i was in that situation. thank y’all for talking about this topic, it’s insane to think this is the world we live in today

18yo from UK. It sounds so crazy that kids fear going to school/college and shit. Ive just finished my last years of education and I’ve never even had the slightest worry that I might not make it. Knife crime pretty much only exists in London over here, and even still I’ve never been scared when going there.

Sorry I want very clear about the girlfriend part. She called a girl in my school the n word, told her boyfriend, who told her to not go to school the next day because he was going to ‘take care of things’. That shit fucked all of us up, and surprise surprise, the bitch ass girlfriend wasn’t suspended, and the black girl she bullied was.

Personally, my school was almost shot up by some mentally deranged kid who had a girlfriend in my school who was called out for being racist. That kid was walking about 3 miles with an assault rifle to my school and would’ve made it there if he wasn’t carrying it in plain sight. The lives of all my friends, classmates, and teachers were in danger because gun laws weren’t strict enough and let a disturbed child take possession of a weapon of mass destruction. So yeah, I agree that something has to fucking change

First I couldn't stop laughing, and then you got super deep, and you still brought it back to me laughing out loud at 3am and annoying my neighbours at the end. Yeah I understand, I personally think we should have armed security (arming teachers is dumb as hell, I’m not tryna get shot for not turning to the right page😂). But some people don’t want that because they say they don’t want kids to feel like they’re in prison, but people forget there are armed security in banks and stores and weed shops yet they don’t feel threatened to go in those places. Sadly democrats don’t want that, its either get rid of guns or nothing.

UghgHgGh id hate to be this guy BUT guns aren’t the problem, its the person. There was a guy in China that stabbed and killed 50 kids and he injured a couple dozen more. Mass shootings are mostly done with illegal guns and they’re mostly pistols, only the ones that are televised are the ones that have legal guns but they aren’t done as often as you think. The reason u see more mass shootings on the media is because it is being broadcasted more to make guns look evil instead of the people. Peoples initial reaction is to get rid of guns but if u look at it more, most mass shootings are drug related and are done in democrat running states.

If I had been stumped by my iPhone lint for more than 2 days, I would have been pretty embarrassed too. That's why we love our short kings, they're just so fuckin stoop......honest.

I have to say I really hate the 'right to bear arms' mentality, I understand how people practice gun safety, but I truly believe that no ordinary person should have the power to kill another person by pressing a button. People say 'what if I need to defend myself?' but if there were no guns, you wouldn't need to defend yourself. Go the Aussie route, no mass shootings since 1996.

I'm australian, never ever in my whole life have I seen a gun not on security or law enforcement. i know it's different culture or whatever but I have to say i think it works

i feel like more often than not people have similar views on gun control and legislation but the media tries to keep everyone on opposite sides so nothing can get done. Like yeah there are probs extremists on either side but its a minority
