Hi guys!
Here's the first drawing for Mermay that I finished today. There's no prompt for this one, I just decided to call it bloom :P
β¦ First, materials. I found out I had this block of watercolor paper that I lovvvvee, it's super thick but not too textured which I really like because it's easier to draw. Also, I forgot to add the Winsor & Newton masking fluid to the photo!

β¦ Sketch:

β¦ Inks:

β¦ I then took a photo and tried a couple of colors digitally to visualize better the colors I wanted to use! It's the first time I do this and it helped a lot! This is how the rough colors looked:

β¦ For coloring I used my usual: Kuretake Gansai Tambi watercolors, Copic markers and a bit of gouache. This is the first watercolor layer:

β¦ A bit of Copic markers to make some colors pop up:

β¦ Background: a light yellow wash

β¦ I peeled off the masking fluid and painted the roses with markers:

β¦ Added the highlights with gouache! This is the final result:

β¦ And the final photos with color correction that I'll post on IG on Friday:

I really enjoyed painting on a single paper and not in my sketchbook for a change! it gave me more freedom and also I really need to start working on a bigger canvas, I'm too used to my small Moleskine. So I'll probably keep using this paper for the next drawings :)
Hope you enjoyed it!
Tomorrow I'll post all the little sketches I have so far. I won't participate the whole month, I'm planning on doing around 10-15 illustrations probably.
Have a good night (or day! )π
