Personal growth is frequently preceeded by pain. I've always considered it a positive thing when the cause of the pain not only isn't trying to take advantage, but also genuinely cares (even if not the way hoped for). So it's really just one of the better possible ways for getting required bad luck out of the way. Like finding out your breaks don't work at 5 mph as opposed to 70 mph.

There are two experiences that seem to be universal among the LBGT folks I know. 1: Coming out of the closet. 2: Realizing you are chasing your straight best friend. This seems like a 2, given Quinn's feelings about Ian, but we'll see.
