My first established OC in the furry fandom was Kelly the Kickboxing Kangaroo. Stereotypical name, role, and alliteration helped me to keep things light and casual while I explored the Furry Fandom in greater depth. And at the time (c. 2010), I wanted a character that gave me an excuse to draw shirtless, dynamic poses and hand/feet-wraps.
As much as I found hand-to-hand combat interesting, I realized around this time I may be a Pacifist. The more I drew Kelly, the more I felt like he had a disgusting personality corrupted by escapism through competition. He never became a fursona because I don't like him as a person. I don't want to BE him. In fact, I dislike him so much that I even designed a character specifically to force him into confronting his suffering. And in moments when my competitive spirit keeps me from loving myself or others, I remember him and thank God I'm not as bad as he is.
Still, Kelly's been good to me. And the lesson's he's taught me are worth sharing, so look forward to more released to the public and the Black Hare tier.
