The Dark Souls 2 MegaCritique Vid

Hopefully when you see the scale and scope of this video you'll appreciate why it took so long to make it! I've been trying to get my thoughts nailed down for a while, and to be honest it took longer than usual for me to work out exactly how I felt about the game - especially considering how much I love the series as a whole. Despite the seemingly critical name of the video, however, I hope you'll appreciate that whilst most of the points I make might be negative I do try and also take the time to celebrate the elements of the game that are great. (To be honest the main reason I went with this title for the video is because structurally it feels very much like spiritual sequel to the Bioshock Infinite vid I made last year. In my head, it just felt *right*.) Do hope you enjoy! I want to try and do more one-off stuff instead of series things at the moment, although obviously not everything will be as heavy as this! ;) Have a good week! Matt x

Big fan of these critique videos, very thoughtful, rather sincere. Will be happy to see more in the future! However whilst I do agree that Dark Souls II's overall world design is a lot weaker, I disagree about some of the other complaints. Enemies have just as many cheap tricks and attacks as in the original (changing the aim of their attack half way through a swing etc.) and being overwhelmed with swarms of enemies is very much present before. Not to mention half the real challenge of the original game came from technical grievances like the erratic frame rate as well as a camera that happily gets caught in every nook of every damned wall. I feel like Dark Souls II gets a lot of flak for minor imperfections that are as prevalent in the original as they are in the sequel. Rose tinted glasses perhaps. Certainly the world is weaker and that's a pretty big step down from Dark Souls but the sequel is also an improvement in a myriad of other ways and as you rightly pointed out the encounter with Vendrick is, for me, more haunting and meaningful than anything in the rest of the series. It's a great game, despite a generally weaker setting is what I'm saying. Poor thing just needs some love.

Hi Matt I just wanted to let you know that HIDETAKA MIYAZAKI is the director of dark souls and demon souls. HIDETAKA MIYAZAKI did not work on dark souls 2. P.S sorry if you have read this all ready as i had posted it on youtube before the comments where removed.
