Girl Genius Comic for Monday, January 09, 2023

I am so pleased, I got this one lettered earlier than usual! I'm trying to reduce anxiety by taking every project that I can't get to right now out of my main studio and shoving it in a corner upstairs. I don't want to look at anything I can't take care of until after my Kickstarter is completely out the door. Then I need to decide if I'm using Kickstarter or BackerKit for the next crowd-fund. Backerkit has recently started their own crowdfunding platform in competition with Kickstarter, and they've been good to us, so we'll see how it goes. I had meant to do a test-run with IndieGoGo, but I haven't had the time to do it, so my plans are still up in the air.

Anyway it doesn't matter yet, because I'm still sorting out the Exorcism Engines one.

Thanks, everyone! As always, I'll be back with colors where there are colors!

Yeah, I was also thinking it was a Hector intervention.

Depends on where you're standing, I'd reckon. Doppler effects and echoes and all that.

If you think the weapon used in panel 6 is Lumi's staff, I disagree. Her staff goes "POF!". The weapon in panel 6 goes "ZOP!". My guess is that this new weapon is being used by Hector.

"Many fine things can be found inside monsters!" should be on a T-shirt.

I like Lumi's weapon, but I'm kind of sad that we didn't get to see more of Franz laying waste to monsters with his fire. Maybe later on.

Hurrah! Our friend has returned! This is happiness!

I participated (as a backer) in a campaign on BackerKit recently and my experience was pretty positive. I liked that the creators could embed polls in each update for feedback (they were running it as a D&D style story, so we could vote on where the narrative went next, which affected which rewards we'd find out about next. I'm not sure this worked out for their planning purposes, as of course the fun of D&D is making unwise decisions because that's what the characters would do). However, that might not be useful for you. I liked that BK had the same ability as Kickstarter to present all the campaign information on one page. I think it was probably easier for the people running the campaign to get payment/fulfillment information synced up as the rewards, pledges, add-on items were on BK already. Much of the layout is very similar to KS, from a backer POV. My biggest complaint about BackerKit vs. Kickstarter is that all of the other stuff I've backed is on KS, and now I can't see that one on my dashboard when I'm giving myself a stern talking to about not spending MORE money on crowdfunded stuff! But that's a "me" problem. It's also harder for participants to comment and ask questions in an open forum. We can comment on individual updates, but there's not one "Comments" tab like KS has. Their "Community" tab gets mixed up with creator updates and it's difficult to find backer questions that might need answering. Overall I don't think BackerKit as a campaign-hosting site has as much reach and less discoverability of projects by happenstance. I can't speak to the backend bit of getting pledges fulfilled and lined up with the things they want, and if that works better for you on BackerKit, I will happily follow you over there!

Huh, I guess Franz's fire didn't do much to that worm? Or I misinterpreted that page and it was a different worm he put his fire through the maw of?

Humungulous is a true adventurer. Finds loot in the most unlikely places.

Alan

What I like about Humongulus is the serif font. (Actually, thinking it over, I'd expect Humongulus to be in Grotesque or something, and Agatha, or maybe Tarvek, to get the delicate serif.)
