Girl Genius Comic for Friday, April 21, 2023

So Bobo the Cat went in for dental surgery today and now he doesn't like me any more. I'm holding out hope that when the drugs wear off and he forgets about it all he'll want to sit with me again, but right now he's mad at me.

His brother is all puff-tailed and growly with him: "You smell funny and therefore I have never seen you before in my life." They've been together since birth. My cats are goofballs.

Because I got up at 5 this morning to start the pre-meds, I am very tired, so I'm keeping this short. Here's Friday's page! Now I shall go imitate Franz in the last panel.

Good night!

Comments

I imagine something everyone who has been reading the comments on this Patreon entry can do without is another comment from me, but, having taken a very close look at the pages leading up to this one while writing my long response above, I have come to the conclusion that my reaction to this page was premature. (And unpleasant and childish as well, for which I apologize to everyone, especially Kaja.) Having reviewed the complete sequence of events, my opinion now is that the whole point of this page is that Franz uses brute force to get into the Lair of Hydrargyros after a long elaborate setup makes us expect some sort of tricky and elaborate mechanism to be triggered. (That was what *I* expected, anyway.) The upending of that expectation is the punchline of a joke that went completely over my head.

You've got a point on the length; This tale has been going on for a good while. (IIRC: the pit triggered because the composition of the flame wasn't correct. Right flame -> no pit trap & "door? what door?)

I guess I'm getting tired of the side story and this page just brought it to a head. No one seems to agree with my opinion here, so let's just set it aside. From a "one for the record books" standpoint, this story (now at 101 pages) is currently longer than volume 2, Agatha Heterodyne and the Airship City (100 pages) and it seems likely to end up longer than volume 5, Agatha Heterodyne and the Clockwork Princess (104 pages).

That's life. You prepare for months for a particular event/action/whatnot and then it turns out to be easy peasy. Or the other way around.

This story just got very annoying. What happened to the "bottomless pit" in front of the entrance that was supposed to be opened by the dragonflame-activated grill? Franz just *melts* his way in?! Then what was the point of the last 25 or so pages that were used to painstakingly set up why Franz's flame needed to be altered to match Hydrargyros's and how to do it?
