Chapter 20: Unmasking The Amber Killer
When the amber cloak finally came off of her body, Cynthia realized that she finally unmasked The Amber Killed and revealed her identity.
Honestly, the last thing she expected was to find out that this woman was one she knew.
She recognized her from… The strip club of all places. It wasn’t exactly only from Richard’s club, but she went way back during the time she was performing under Joss—that woman was her best friend at the club.
Her name was Josephine Rocher.
Josephine was a beautiful stripper. She had citrus-yellow eyes and gorgeous blonde hair that rained down to her shoulders. Much like all the performers at the club—under Joss’s direction or Richard’s, it didn’t matter—she had a remarkably amazing body. She had the classic kind of body that was so prominent back in the 80s with big over-the-top breasts and long, neverending legs. She even had the crazy hair from that era with heavy use of spray net. Josephine seriously came across like a woman from a different time. Cynthia agreed that this made a lot of sense since she was quite a bit older than she was. So much so that she sort of saw her as her mentor when she first began working at Joss’s club a long time ago. She knew so much and she was taught so much by her that she was kind of her “Mommy” at work more or less. Seeing her coming out from under that yellow cloak was the last thing that she expected to see after unmasking The Amber Killer.
“Josephine?” Cynthia’s aggressive side mellowed down a bit. She softened and her eyes shifted from dinosaur eyes to her regular human eyes.
“I’m sorry, Cynthia…” she called her by her first name, indicating that she was still, indeed, pretty close to her. That part didn’t change, at least.
“I don’t understand, why were you going around murdering people? Why did you try doing the same thing to me?” she asked her, becoming emotional about it, not exactly something she did too often or allowed herself to be. She certainly didn’t show that side of her often.
“Come you, you’re the detective in this room, Cynthia. You should have figured it out by now.”
“What do you mean?”
Then, the gears finally began turning in her head…
Wait… Everywhere she went—all the people she attacked were connected to… To the club… That’s right. I’ve done my homework and even that woman I thought was a poor and innocent one at the dock was connected to Richard’s family. Something is going on… I should have considered the possibility that the killer was someone involved in the strip club, but I didn't and now I’m kicking myself for it… Cynthia thought.
“You wanted to hurt as many people as possible who were connected to the club, but why?” Cynthia asked her.
“No, try again, Cyn, this is not what it is, at all.”
“What do you mean? I thought it was pretty obvious.”
“Oh, want to know what’s pretty obvious? The fact that you didn’t think about…”
“Yes, Amber, I know. Your stage name is Amber,” Cynthia interrupted her, already knowing what she was about to say. “Amber is your stage name and ironically, you turn people into big chunks of amber crystal hence why the press called you The Amber Killer. I thought of it at first, but deep inside, I hoped that it wasn’t true. I hoped that it wasn’t you, but it was….” Cynthia was disappointed, to say the least.
“Sorry, baby girl, but it is what it is. The part that you don’t know is why I did it and no, you were wrong when you said that my goal was to hurt people connected to the club. This couldn’t be further from the truth, in fact,” she promised her.
“Then, please enlighten me. What was your motive for hurting that many people?” Cynthia desperately wished to know.
“It was never about hurting people from the club—it was about protecting it.”
Protecting it? Wait… I’m not following… What does she mean by that? Cynthia wondered.
“It was always about the business,” all of a sudden, a third voice was heard. It was a man’s voice and she knew exactly who that was long before seeing the man himself.
This can’t be…
Then, the man entered the room and revealed himself.
It was Richard.
He stood tall and proud, standing over these two gorgeous women. Josephine or Amber rather quickly went to his side. Meanwhile, Cynthia melted on the other side of the room. She moved down to her knees, sexually intimidated by the sheer presence of the hunky dinosaur man.
“Richard…” Cynthia uttered his name.
“Welcome, baby! Nice to see you again!” Amber kissed him right on the cheek.
“What are you doing here, Richard?” Cynthia questioned him.
“You didn’t see anything coming, huh?” Richard didn’t seem too surprised that she had not seen anything coming.
“What is this? Did you guys set me up or something? Was this all a plan to get me out of the city and kill me right here? Is that it, huh?” Cynthia continued melting until she came down to her knees, feeling more defeated than ever.
“This is not it, at all, Cyn. We needed to be sure you were on our side. We had to be careful,” Amber promised her, and she seemed honest with her words.
“Like I just said, the business is what matters the most. It was always that way. Amber is my most important partner and when I asked her to deal with people for me—enemies of ours who worked for competitive businesses, she said yes. What I didn’t know was that you of all people were going to go snooping around in an attempt to stop our efforts. Thankfully, you came to me and so I was able to get you out of the city, so we could deal with you here and without any of your friends. Now, to answer your question: Was this all a plan to hurt you, Widdowfield? Well, you see, it all depends on you. What are you going to do? Are you going to side with us and protect our plans or are you going to want to go against us and try to bring us to justice?” Richard laid it all out for her, so she understood in what kind of trouble she was.
