Chapter 2: Celebration After Promotion
After a nice day in the pool, the girls went to relax in town.
The three of them wore nothing more than the same bikini outfits that they had worn before, except that they brought flip-flops with them, so they could walk around. They also each took a beach towel with them. Their bodies were still so soaking wet that this was the right thing to do.
The place where they went to in town was a small bistro café called: ‘The Smooth Tooth’.
There, they gathered around a small table outside on the terrace.
It was a sunny and peaceful day, perfect for being outside all day.
“To us!” Nene was the first one who raised her drink high in the air not too long after the waitress brought them their cold and refreshing beverages.
Slice followed suits.
The spinosaurus woman raised her drink as well and brought it so close to Nene’s that it…
Ding!
It collided against hers!
“To us!”
Cynthia smiled before raising her drink as well!
Ding!
It smashed against their drinks, too!
“To us!”
Then, they all proceeded to drink, still riding on that high of receiving these awards and being promoted. It wasn’t every day that they received a promotion. Not too long ago, Cynthia was a private eye, who was always on her own—struggling. Meanwhile, Nene had been living in the shadows of her family and was never able to stand out on her own, now she had helped rid the city of the worst criminals there was—the count. Finally, there was Slice, who up to this point had been living in a prison for the better part of her life. Anything else than that was paradise to her. Working with these new friends of hers was pure happiness for Slice.
“Can you believe it? We are officially part of the team!” Nene shouted after finishing a sip of her drink.
“We were promoted!” Slice rejoiced.
“I wonder what they’re going to expect of us now…” Cynthia was apprehensive about the entire thing since she was so used to working on our own—well, until she met these guys and truly started giving teamwork a try.
They were about to continue partying until…
“Madame Widdowfield…”
Cynthia suddenly heard her name and she stopped drinking her drink…
“Madame Cynthia Widdowfield!”
“Uh?”
It wasn’t her imagination because she heard her name again.
She placed her drink back down on the table, and she turned her head around, slowly, not knowing what to expect.
When she finally turned around, she discovered a woman hoping to speak to her.
The woman in question was slightly older than her.
She was human.
“Hi?”
Once again, she didn’t exactly know what to expect at this point.
“Are you her?”
“I guess I am her—I mean, if you want to talk to a certain Cynthia Widdowfield…”
“I need your help! I’d like to request your private detective’s services!” This seemed to be an emergency, as well. At least, this was how Cynthia sensed the tone in her voice and how she handled herself with her back arching and her hands in front of her chest, looking intimated and timid, even though, Cynthia didn’t do anything to intimidate her. It probably took a lot out of her to seek her out. She desperately needed her detective’s services.
“Well, you see…”
“I fear that my husband is cheating on me!” The mature woman shouted hysterically.
It was at that moment that Cynthia finally began to understand that this was a lot more serious than she originally thought it was about.
This was a serious matter, and the woman who came for her—specifically seeking her out, was now on the verge of crying. Her eyes were already tremendously teary.
It was sad to see.
Cynthia became silent.
The same thing could be said about the other ladies around that table. Nene and Slice began taking this just as seriously as their friend did.
“I see. Thank you for coming to me. Let’s see what I can do for you,” Cynthia tried reassuring her a bit, so she wouldn’t cry right there on the terrace.
This worried woman sought the help of a private investigator and that was fine, but there was just one little problem… Cynthia was no longer a private investigator. No longer full-time, at least.
“But Cynthia, how are you going to manage to keep working under your name if we are working for Trix now?” Nene whispered to her over the table, not attempting to stop her or anything like that, but she did try to raise some concerns with her, simply because she was no more the same Cynthia she was before, and her priorities might have changed a little.
“What are you saying?” Cynthia whispered back to her, not exactly certain what she meant by that, other than she was trying to be cautious.
“I say you have to help her, Cynthia…” Then, it was Slice, the seducing spinosaurus woman who gave her opinion to her as well over the table, whispering just as much as the other girls did.
“Um…”
“Please help me, Madame Widdowfield… I’m begging you… I was told you were the best of the best…” The woman was begging for her help with her back curved up.
…
There was a short moment of silence and reflection as the private investigator pondered about what she was supposed to do.
Then, she spoke, finally…
“Lady… Tell me about your cheating husband—I will help you!”
The blue-haired detective had made her choice.
“Oh? Thank you so much, thank you, thank you…” The stranger was relieved. Tears began pouring down her eyes.
“Are you sure about that, Cynthia? Trix told us that…” Nene stood up.
“Don’t worry about Trix right now, would you?” Cynthia didn’t want to hear any of it.
Then, all of a sudden…
BEEP!
BEEP!
The three ladies all received a text at the same time!
They all looked at their respective phones to discover that they were being called for work by…
“It’s Quentin!” Slice declared.
“It’s an alert,” Nene read.
“Alright, we have to go,” Cynthia then looked up at the woman in need, “Lady, come by my office tomorrow, and we’ll sort this out, you and me, okay?”
“Okay… Thank you so much…” The woman thanked her again and then, the girls were off…
