macbeth is supposed to be a cursed play and yes there's rituals like that which are done as more of an anti curse good luck thing in drama circles, like throwing a pinch of salt over your shoulder but to negate the negative. I haven't seen it mentioned being done before anything but macbeth though

With baldrick its a bit of a joke to show hes mimicking the upper class but doesn't quite understand how they work. At 9:30 you can see mrs miggins has a couple stuck on after the makeup
