If even the tiniest fraction are habitable, then the Universe should be teeming with life. And yet we see nothing, only vast emptiness. Where is everyone else?
The answer to this riddle could be as exciting as it is creepy: we are early, born before almost all other life – but very soon this may change. Not only might aliens appear, they could quickly surround us. An irreversible competition for the universe might be about to begin.

2023-07-21 00:59:38 +0000 UTCI think that's only because our point of reference grants an advantage to robotic life over organic life. Who's to say this has to be the case in other places? Maybe other organic life is not even carbon-based. Maybe it's not even solid. We simply have no idea therefore you can not state what would be more likely.

But what if that's just an evolutionary intermediate step towards much more advanced inorganic forms of life (intelligent robots - something like the Replicators in the Star Gate series)? Organic life forms are not very well adapted for space travel, and it is not easy to artificially adapt them to the inhospitable environment of space in a reasonable time. On the other hand, robots and their attributes can be adjusted very quickly as needed. Simply said - they can spread much faster. In that case, I believe it's much more likely that we will encounter an AGI-robotic lifeform before we find an advanced organic one.
