NEW VIDEO: How You Move Through the Universe

Look around you. Where are you? Where is this place you are occupying? Somewhere in a room, maybe in a city on a continent on a planet orbiting a star in a galaxy among billions. But… where is all of that? While this may feel like a daft question, it turns out that the concept of an absolute position is something humans made up.

In a nutshell, the universe is a big bag of space that has things in it. If someone removed all these things, the stars and planets and black holes and dust, there would just be empty space left. In empty space, the concept of having a position loses all meaning. Empty space is uniform, the same everywhere.

This one was especially cool and somewhat "... woah ..." inducing 🦅

DAVID SULLIVAN

The "center" of the big bang may not be in the part of the universe we can see. To use the raisin bread analogy (all of the raisins/galaxies spread out from each other as the bread rises), our observable universe part might be just a small scoop out of the interior of a very big loaf of the raisin bread. We can only see < 50 billion light years, and it might be hundreds of billions of light years or more across.

Tony Hammitt

well in theory, if we can find it we could use the big bang, as the center point of the Univers, it would be still most likely sphere like but with a center for refference ^^

Otoger

awesome video as always :D

Avalanche

This was an amazing video. WIthout any doubt. Thank you so much. I just feel that would have been so cool that you included the Great Atractor, after the Milkey Way. It's another movemente, and then... the expantion of universe itself. I love all your work <3

Balam

I noticed that too. Every video is so chock full of small allusions. I love it!

Exactly what Max said! I was just discussing this with my boys the other day, pointing out the impossibility of time travel, as it would necessitate physically moving the earth (and all of the cosmos for that matter) to their positions in space time that correlate to a given moment. The discussion prompted me to attempt describing what the solar system’s flight through the cosmos looks like. This video, of course did a much better job achieving that. Thanks!

Joel (easteraries)

Loved this video! It reminds me: you should make a video on time travel theory, or how all existing theories (including from sci-fi novels and movies) fail to address the fact that Earth moves all the time and won't be there upon arriving at a different moment in time.

Squeeeee! The Little Prince!!! ❤️❤️❤️

A beautiful video. Thanks for sharing it with us ❤️

As a space nerd this episode was such a treat.
