This episode was amazing! There are so many layers to it that are going to be so important to address in the future. Now, where to begin with Alyssa? My god, do I feel bad for her upbringing. While I do not like her for what she did to Shin Ae (and what she said to Nol) we finally got SOME insight into what life was like for Alyssa. But not just that, I feel so much pity for her. You can clearly tell she was distressed as a result of “being offered a sponsorship.” What happened to Alyssa was awful. What I thought was really interesting was the key difference between her and Nol, both having faced familial trauma/neglect, and how they’ve dealt with the situation and how they behave in relationships/friendships. As Nol stood firm with how Alyssa and the family has been treating him for all these years, he mentions a few things I’d like to acknowledge about how Alyssa has treated him, the people she was friends with, and Shin Ae. Both have a hard time connecting with people, both perceive it differently, but both also regress whenever there are circumstances related to their trauma. Alyssa, craving attention and love as a result of her father’s constant pressure, verbal, and (I presume) physical abuse, takes any opportunity she can get to be loved, to be noticed, something she has desperately wanted to do since she was a child. All she wanted to do was escape, and she will do anything to get it, even if it means abandoning people who have been willing to open up to her and be friends with her. Is her awful behavior excused? No, she never even properly apologized to Shin Ae for what she did, and Shin Ae was KIND enough to give Alyssa mercy (by not reporting her to the principal and never mentioning who did that to her, to anyone). I stand firm on the fact that while I sympathize this character, I do not justify her actions because of her past. Nol wants to escape in a different manner. Because he has been emotionally abused, neglected, “thrown away,” by his family, and ABANDONED when he needed them the most, Nol desperately SEEKS out companionship, coincidentally enough, with people who are struggling like him. Nol lifts them up, encourages them, and is incredibly pushy at first when trying to be friends with them. He wants people to rely on him, because he NEVER got that after Nessa’s passing. However, as I mentioned, both do regress from relationships. Nol does so because he fears that HE will hurt the people he loves. He’s scared. He’s made so many mistakes (in his eyes), is going to jail soon, and just sustained a life-changing injury. The moment he feels a true spark between Shin Ae, an intimate moment with her, his self-sacrificing nature IMMEDIATELY cares about Dieter’s emotional well-being, but, he’s also scared. He’s scared of opening up to Shin Ae because he firmly believes he actively harmed her, and believes he will CONTINUE to harm her because of Yui. Here’s the difference though. When Alyssa pushed off Shin Ae on accident, she ran away and never formally apologized, not even admitting what she did. Nol? When he let go of Shin Ae, and he saw her fall into the pool and hit her head on the bottom, what was the first thing he did? He jumped in to save her. He no longer cared about himself. His priority WAS Shin Ae, no matter how painful life was, how peaceful being underwater felt, away from his trauma, he swam up to the surface FOR HER. THAT is the difference between these characters. One avoids their mistakes and never addresses them, while one desperately tries to make up for them, even going so far as to sacrifice their own well-being for someone they love/care about, feeling such immense guilt towards their actions that it negatively impacts them and the way their relationships function from that point on. But both have intense emotional responses that end up harming themselves further. Id also like to add that Yui is one of the most evil people I have read on WEBTOON. What makes her so incredibly dangerous is how she hides in the shadows. She manipulates and uses people, even her own son, and tears down those who are a threat to her, including a kid for just being born. She does everything “benevolent” for her OWN GAIN. She will let Alyssa get sexually assaulted for Yui’s benefit. She will manipulate Kousuke into hating Nol for her OWN GAIN. She will terrorize Nol for simply existing for her OWN GAIN. What an awful character Quim, this story is fantastic. The way you write and create your characters are amazing, and I could go on and on about how fascinating this story is. Thank you SO MUCH for the effort you have put into this story over the years, it really has paid off!

Amazing chapter Quim! Alyssa gave me whiplash tho 😅 Says: Im trying! Proceeds to not listen/dismiss him, insult, lash out, spit personal jabs, AND bring Yui 💀 I hope she finds the strength to put a stop to this and see that there's more to life than fame and stranger's validation.

Oh lawd Quimchee…lots of people are having a hard time with this one. I’m sure you anticipated this. I just wanted to express my support for you after taking a day or two to read through the Webtoon comment section (a very dumb decision on my part). This episode is perfect in every possible way narratively and artistically. Please know that there are people who are good readers and are following what is happening. I can’t thank you enough for the astounding payoff and sharing this story with us for so many years. ❤️❤️ On a side note, as a fellow writer, please allow me to give you every dollar in my bank account if you ever decide to do a MasterClass on portraying tension and pain in your work 😂 😂

I don’t know, watching blatant misogyny isn’t fascinating imo but whatever floats your boat. 🙃

This was a really interesting episode!❤️ I don't know if you talked about it, but if we learn more about Alyssa, how would you scale her backstory? I think you said Shin Ae was a 2, Kousuke a 4, and Yeong-Gi a 5, unless that has changed.🤔

This episode was a ROLLERCOASTER It was both satisfying and enraging, and all I can say is I can't wait for the day that Yui ends up face down in a river :)

It’s one of the first webtoons where I feel like the drama is explained in an interesting and realistic way.. idk if it makes sense but I can feel all the personalities involved, the intentions and I naturally find myself questioning all the circumstances.. the art as always is 💯 💕

Amazing. Just amazing. This was exceptional writing. The comments are so divided, mwahahaha. That drives some people nuts, but I find it fascinating. I love watching how different people think, depending on backgrounds, cultures, traditions, etc. Well done.
