Yeah, there are quite a few instances of german in this show, mostly for the european folklore vibes I think, but sometimes there's a bit more meaning too. The witch's familiars (cottonballs) in the first episode also spoke it, but they didn't say anything too interesting. The text on the wall in this episode is very poetic and old-timey, so even if you can read, it's hard to make sense of.
