[SILVER] Fate/Zero (Episode 17) "The Eighth Contract"

Comments

According to my understanding, About the Fourth Magic, human or Mage Association are not the only one who are capable of research in Fate world. True Magic bearers and mages are not default ally to each other, they need to keep their secrets and studies respectively for the sake of many things. Just imagine dark matter, human mages studies many things, as they dig deeper into knowledge, they discovered more elements are missing from the equation, after many years they can conclude there has to be five True Magic, for now(few True Magics are managed to confirm their nature because one or two of those bearers are mages themselves and maintaining a relatively close distance to Mage Association). In addition, recent Fate Grand Order(mobile game) just related some nature of True Magic through a future human world with advanced AI tech. For example understanding and confirmation of parallel world is one of the milestone for a civilization of intellectual species to elevate into further stage, no matter the method. More Stay Night mage method would be viewing actual Root gaining True Magic or via Fate/Extra world's method which is fading of magecraft/mystery but extreme digital technology/simulation of multiple reality, as a start of proving parallel world. Simply put, reaching those True Magics/knowledges is the main quest of any intellectual species in Fate. About what is a Noble Phantasm, simply put they are treasures of world harvesting primate + some of its "imagination/power up". Human mages are merely downloading a partial of the Heroic Spirit stored by the planet into reality, if the world would allows it. There are some titles with no summon of servants at all because the world is relatively mad with humans. For Gilgamesh, the world acknowledge him as the prioneer of Human Age, the world can use a fitting historical figure and some fitting stories/legends to design a powerful warrior for it, Gil is fitting for that role hence given such OP privelege/Noble Phantasm. In the eyes of those in the world(including summoned servants themselves except some with extaordinary knowledge like Gilgamesh), servant can be said the real revived historical figure with the same memory and appearance, but they are actually new soul for each summon, it is like when you granted copyright from a certain Vtuber to print their variant AI into a game, same soul to others but every summon's consiousness are their own and one time per world. Due to this some might treasure this only one chance to do things in surface reality for only-this-me self-fulfilment like Lancer and Rider, some like Gil who got no business to the current world and capable to instantly see through many things are like don't give a shit except his own amusement. About the sacrifice of servants, Grail War is a trap ritual set by combining three family of mages capable in various field of spells, for example Matou's forging command spells to force the last servant commiting suicide/completing all seven sacrifices, minor products of Einsbern's Third Magic which is materialization of summoned spirits and landlord Tohsaka providing their leyline here in Japan, as most of the leyline/huge mana source from center of Earth in the world are under control by church or mages, this Grail War ritual is actually mean to kept secret from Mage Assosiation and of course public. Those three family's aim is to use the materially existing grail artifact(inside Illyasviel) to get high quality spirits data, animate them, absorbing them so that they can perform another summons of real spiritual greater grail and gained an excuse for the world to return a valuable experience data to universe event recording end, the Root(this why need a greater grail is my rough guess, typical explanation is just because of more and more mana needed, but still must have more to that considering deeper lore the ritual is physically formed mainly by the remainings of certain dissected Einsbern mage which only mentioned in background lore outside of anime, like sacrificing and gather all the Heroic Spirits as the symbol to reunite the body parts? Well usual ritual stuff). To do that, they need a scheme to cheat on 4/7 of the masters(3 masters are from those founding family, their head of family knowing the truth, but not sure about those actual participant tho)and 7 Heroic Spirits, for them to descend from the Root/server base to this world and play the war game, lastly the path to the Root can be penetrated and maintain for awhile when those seven servants die from fighting or commiting suicide return to the outer of world together, thus satisfying all three party of mage family to reach the Root. Ultimately pro gamer mage from three founder family supposed to win easily against other four rogue mages, at least according to their plan.

I can't wait for you guys to see the next episode, it's definitely one of my favorites. My notes for the episode: -In response to Theta's criticism of my list of the True Magics, while I understand his frustration with the fact that nothing is known about the Fourth, the list I provided is the actual ordered list of the 5 True Magics and each True Magic is also referred to by its respective number as an official title (i.e. in the Witch on the Holy Night the "Fifth Magic" is literally called the "Fifth Magic" in the story). Typemoon lore is very complicated and detailed, but there are often concepts or items left vague or unanswered that are addressed in separate works. -In regards to Gilgamesh possessing the "prototypes" of almost all other Noble Phantasms I'll provide some more detail. In the Typemoon Universe when it comes to magecraft and magecraft related items like Noble Phantasms the general rule of thumb is that the older that magecraft's origin is, the more superior it is to more recently developed magecraft. In this world while science is constantly moving forward, magecraft is constantly moving backwards or trying to rediscover its peak during the Age of Gods. When Gilgamesh was alive he collected all the treasures in the world, which included most (but not all) of the weapon noble phantasms in existence before they had received the names that would be associated with them in legend. Because the "prototypes" he owns are older than the weapons more recent servants use as noble phantasms they are technically superior even though core abilities of the weapons are the same (i.e. he probably has Lancer's two spears but if you were to compare them Gilgamesh's would be superior because they are older). Gilgamesh's noble phantasm Gate of Babylon is literally the storehouse where all the treasures he collected during his life were kept. -Gilgamesh was humanity's first hero and first king in this world and during life he considered himself the ruler of all of humanity and the entire planet and he therefore believes that everything on Earth is literally under his rule and he is free to do with it as he pleases. -In general, Servants are people whose actions in life were so profound and had such an impact on humanity that it resulted in their souls being removed from the cycle of reincarnation and being inscribed/stored in the Throne of Heroes which is a metaphysical place that exists outside of space and time, turning them into a Heroic Spirit. Saber is an exception to this and Lessons might not know why since he didn't see the first couple of episodes explaining how Saber has been summoned from literally before she died historically in the past. -The Magic Circuits a mage possesses allow a mage to draw in mana from the environment and convert it into magical energy which can be used to either fuel spells or enable Servants to stay materialized. It is possible to draw in and use more mana than one's capacity and cast a spell exceeding that capacity but that will cause damage to the mage's body or magic circuits and even risks death. Mana is drawn from the natural world around a mage and not created within a mage's body and it is possible for all the ambient mana in an area to be used up if enough magecraft is used, but that ambient mana will replenish overtime. -If a servant is summoned for multiple Holy Grail wars, those servants don't retain any memories from prior Holy Grail wars, but there are exceptions to this rule. -After Kiritsugu pulled the fire alarm at the hotel, there was a hotel employee walking around confirming everyone evacuated and Kiritsugu hypnotized him into checking off that Lord El Melloi and his wife had evacuated. -Kayneth's title of "Lord" marked him as one of the highest ranked mages in the Clock Tower/Mage's Association. -the "Wolverine claws" Theta mentioned that Kirei uses are called "Black Keys" and are weapons used by the Holy Church when fighting enemies. -the woman who was with Rin when her father visited was her mother. -Sakura being made a "sacrifice" to the Matous is not as well explained in the anime as it is in the light novel of Fate Zero. The context you're missing is that both Rin and Sakura were born with especially high potential that was very unique in the magecraft world. In this world, only the official successor of a family of magi associated with the Magic Association is given protection from the Association essentially capturing particularly unique mages to use study as specimens and try and find a way to understand their unique magic/abilities. This meant that since Rin would be the official heir, Sakura was at risk of a capture and experimentation on by the Mage's Association, but by letting the Matous adopt her to become the heir to their magic she would have that same protection, and since mages work hard to keep how their magic works secret from other mages Tokiomi probably assumes Sakura is getting trained similar to how Rin is. Please do not mistake this as me trying to justify what Tokiomi did, I hate this man with a passion for what he's done to Sakura even though he likely has no idea what the consequences for doing this was. -while Tohsaka intended to use the Grail to reach the Root, it is possible for a mage to use the Grail for a wish as was advertised to the mages who aren't part of the families that started the Fuyuki Holy Grail War. Kiritsugu intends to use the Grail for this specific purpose, as he told Saber, in order to put an end to Mankind's history of violence and killing of each other. This means that Kirei might have a wish he seeks and he would not need to kill Gilgamesh to use the Grail for that purpose. -Kirei's wife was the one who died recently when the show started. -the reason why Irisviel's condition has been deteriorating over time is not simply because time has been passing but is because each time a Servant dies, instead of simply returning to the Throne of Heroes its soul is absorbed by the Grail and converted into magic energy. Every time a Servant died, Irisviel's condition would get worse because she was now absorbing that Servant's soul as the Grail. If I remember the timeline correctly: 1. after Assassin died she started losing her physical strength and feeling in her hands which is why Saber had to start driving for her, 2. then Caster and Lancer died in short order which led to her collapsing shortly after Lancer's death and her current weakness in this episode.
