4K videos need libx265 codec

Those who are not hackers might have stumbled upon an issue when trying to play 4K and 6K videos on a non-VR device such as phone, tablet or computer. If that's your case then the reason is likely because you're missing the libx265 codec as the older one libx264 can't handle such high resolution. Libx265 comes installed with (probably) all VR devices, but that's unlikely the case for the other types of devices.

If you're using a desktop or laptop then there's hope. Just install the free VLC player and then try to play the video using it. If prompted, then accept the installation of libx265 codec. Libx265 can also be installed on other video players (ie: Windows standard video player) but often you're asked to buy it, while it is free for VLC player.

We've never tried a workaround for other devices such as phone and tablets. Please kindly let us know in the comment below if you managed to make it work for those devices as well.

Hi Mike. Answering to your comment (deleted by accident), the link to the entire VR archive is just below on the same post you got the link to the latest VR release. But we'll send it to you on DM anyway for your convenience.
