Hey hey
Added 2020-02-05 23:12:06 +0000 UTCJust thought I'd drop you all a quick note. How are you? Yeah? Oh I'm fine, thanks for asking. :)
You might've seen my twitter post poking folk for Patreon support. I noticed I lost a lot of supporters over January which I understand; it's a new year, take a fresh look at finances and all that. I had assumed that the number of new supporters each month would replace the old ones, and be a gentle linear increase; my twitter numbers are steadily increasing, and the number of page views and hip downloads on the wiki is also increasing. But no, a look at the stats shows Patreon support is falling.
When I did a similar twitter reminder this time last year, I got a substantial jump in support. I guess folk need to be reminded that this stuff takes time to make, and a little bit of support is appreciated.
Anyway, thanks for supporting me, it really means a lot! And more importantly, join us on Discord! There's a very friendly bunch of people there, I tend to post and chat pretty frequently. Special thanks to SquidBean, Oliver Hotz, HristoVelev, Swalsch, and several others who seem to be awake 24x7 and often answer questions before I do!
Cheers all,
-matt

Also, I see what you're saying about the pay thing. I feel far too many novice houdini user's try to cash in on teaching recycled techniques to an unknowing crowd... You've always put up material that is useful and doesn't show off. Looking forward to checking out this community. Not like any of use can go anywhere at the moment so Im sure it'll be thriving. lol

2020-05-03 15:42:30 +0000 UTCHey Matt! Nice to meet you. Big fan over here. Yeah that forum looks pretty sweet. I guess it's like the equivalent of going to one of the senior fx guys at work and bugging them for help, except it's all online XD

2020-05-03 15:40:35 +0000 UTCHey Sean, nah, partially policy to not put stuff behind a paywall, all the folk I learned from didn't do that, would feel wrong to claim all my second or third hand knowledge is now important enough to charge for. :) The one value add that's worked quite well here is discord; that's patreon only, and is a thriving community of lovely people. I post a few hips in there when people have questions, as do a lot of other folk. I see you joined already, I think you'll like it.

2020-05-02 19:19:14 +0000 UTCMatt I've been following your stuff since about 4 years now, there's a bunch of hidden gems for sure, not sure why more people don't support tbh! Also, can I only find your stuff on cgwiki, or have you got any material on here as well?

2020-02-06 16:04:58 +0000 UTCIt is true that at first, to be honest, I cheerfully downloaded your hip files and I consulted the wiki a lot (I always consult it ,it is a gold mine) without participating ... But I am very happy to participate now because yes, it is work, work well done, well explained and you are someone very accessible too. My only regret is not being able to participate with more than 1 dollar (I am a student) but I do not hesitate to present your Patreon as soon as I have the opportunity ;)

2020-02-05 23:26:06 +0000 UTCthe most under appreciated source for houdini content.... seriously! But you know how people are these days man, the value of the written word is lost on most and video tuts are all the rage. For what its worth I plug the whole wiki but especially JOV all the time to people. I'm scheduled to be on a podcast in March and I'm definitely going to mention cgwiki and the patreon page!
