Lego Batman, videos, supporter support

Lego Batman is out! Go see it lots of times and buy lots of Lego! Consuuuume! It was great fun to work on, and it forced me to learn bits of Houdini I wouldn't have touched otherwise (all my DOPs notes are thanks to TLBM), so the selling of Lego bricks can be directly linked to wiki gifs and hips. Thanks Lego! Thanks WB!

The poll on making video's took an interesting turn, its now weighed in favour of NOT doing videos. Fair enough. The fact that I haven't done a trial one yet is an indication of how long it takes, and how little time I have, so that might be for the best (for now anyway). I /might/ be doing something else soon, I'll let you know if that becomes a more definite thing.

The video question came out of two thoughts, finding a bigger audience for the wiki (and ideally more patreon supporters), but also out of a desire to give you folk value for money. I keep visualising patreon as a virtual tip jar, and I think most of you have signed up in that spirit. I didn't want it to be something to distract too much from work and family, yet here I am worrying that you folk aren't getting value for money.

As such, I'll remind you again that if you have ideas of things you'd like me to cover,  please let me know. A few of you have taken me up on this, Jon inpsired a section on Vex rotation, and Isaac made me go research volume displacement, neither of which I would have written if they hadn't prompted me.  If the rest of you want to add suggestions in the comments below, feel free, if any bubble up as 'yes! do that!', it'll pop to the top of my list. For starters, Jon suggested I do an article on the rest sop and rest attrib, and various ways that can be used.

Anyway, I plan to write more of these updates more regularly, so brace yourself for even more rambly text than usual. At least your safe from extra animated gifs.... For now....

Cheers,

-matt

Always thanks Matt!

I like Isaac's idea about what you discovered in H16. And, if you're onto volumes, I'd love to know more about detecting the interaction between SOP geo and volumes, using collision volumes to bang into a crowd agent, etc. I haven't explored it much but I once asked Peter Clause how he managed the precise ant footfalls in AntMan. he said volume sampling and its been hanging around in the back of my brain ever since. Another example would be the destruction in Star Wars. I'm pretty sure the rag doll stormtroopers are being whacked around by the collision SDFs coming out of the destruction sequences.
