Man, the giddyness I felt when I got these photos back. So much playfulness and eagerness to create and experiment and it resulted in these absolute bangers. Bodies seemingly floating in nothingness, otherworldly and unbothered, without a care in the world. The exact feeling we felt in those moments, perfectly captured on film. These were taken in a cave, where there was very limited light and the air was thick with steam from the hot water, I risked my Minolta SR-T 101 to grab these, and I couldn’t have chosen a better camera. When it was first released in 1966, it was called “the Tank” because of its seemingly indestructible frame and was a favorite amongst war photographers for that reason. So a little cave steam was nothing for it. I also had with me my trusty waterproof Canon Prima AS-1, which captured frames 10 and 11. I used the no flash setting and had in portra 160, which resulted in those extremely long exposures.
