Update Feb 28

Hello everyone, this is Dianna’s family speaking.

First off we want to thank you so much for your generous donations. As of right now, Dianna is still in a very perilous situation. Last week she was rushed back to the hospital, where doctors found a pulmonary embolism (a blood clot in her lungs). She is back home and safe but still in a really bad state. Due to her severe ME/CFS symptoms, There are short moments where she is able to talk, but most of the day -every day- she doesn’t have the mental or physical capacity to talk, see, or hear anything.

Long Covid and ME/CFS research is still in it's infancy, so there is a lot we still don’t know, and a lot of possible treatments to explore. We are in touch with a clinic that specializes in Long Covid, so stay tuned on that.

For the foreseeable future, Dianna will require round-the-clock caretaking, so your donations are absolutely appreciated and will go towards making sure she receives the most compassionate and healing care possible.

Thank you again to everyone for your support. She didn’t know the gofundme was started, and when we told her, she immediately started crying (which we told her not to do because it could exacerbate her Post Exertional Malaise ).

Stay tuned, more to come ❤️

My prayers are with you sweet girl.

Hey Dianna, I'm not sure when you will be well enough to read this, but I love your videos and the energy and enthusiasm you bring to them. I am sure that you have been an inspiration to young women everywhere to pursue a career in science, and I look forward to you coming back and making more videos when you are able. I know it's not very scientific, but I'll be praying for you. Lots of love and healing thoughts, John Edmonds WA

Stay strong! Prayers and well wishes from Austin, Texas 💪🙏

I saw that Dianna, our physics wonder woman was sick, and I immediately thought of some white papers that might help. NAD+ in COVID-19 and viral infections https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8831132/ Treatment of SARS-CoV-2-induced pneumonia with NAD+ and NMN in two mouse models https://www.nature.com/articles/s41421-022-00409-y There are so many more studies exploring the use of NAD+ (NR, and NMN) to help fight long COVID. I hope she can use some early science to help her condition. NR, and NMN are both found naturally in food, but if she were to take them in supplement form, it might be easier to get them into the system. I found it very helpful for me! I take the full suite of supplements from Elysium Health, as they have both NR & NMN in the Basis and Signal packs. The other two couldn't hurt either, but they focus more on helping with longevity, DNA repair, cellular senescence, and mental health. Everything is stuff you would find in food, and Elysium has 9 noble nobel laureates on it's board. Many of the same supplements are given to NASA astronauts that return from long missions in space to help repair DNA damage. I hope her team and doctors are able to look into this research and are able to advise as to whether it's worth a shot. I spent 3 months looking into white papers and such making sure it was safe before I started taking it to hopefully help just a bit with some liver damage I have, and in my research, I kept seeing how it would also help Long-COVID. My Doctor also put me on Metformin, as I am not yet diabetic, he did it for metabolic health and longevity reasons. I also found out that it too helps with LONG-COVID symptoms. Metformin was originally made from French Lilac's and in most of the world is sold over the counter, but in the US it has so many medicinal benefits that the FDA still requires a prescription for it. It's worth asking her medical team about. Here are a few articles https://www.webmd.com/covid/news/20230309/diabetes-drug-helps-prevent-long-covid?src=RSS_PUBLIC https://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2023/01/long-covid-prevention-pills-paxlovid-metformin/672763/ I hope this helps. My daughter really especially loved the videos that Dianna was able to make. We are looking forward to her recovery.

NOPE!! no, no, no, nah, nei, Uh-uh. Not possible. Not an option and not in the schedule. You see, I have this thing in my calendar that says "Until whenever we figure our !F⽔⼑g situation out, the best people aren't allowed to abandon us to science the s#/% out of it alone." So DON'T TELL ME you ain't gonna kick this virus's butt with the mightiest mental strength it has ever met in its pathetic existence or I'll strap 10 N95s to my bare feet and kick it out of the Earth's atmosphere myself! Got it? Okay. I love you. Come back please. Not please, that's an order!

Caetano Veyssieres

we're so sorry to hear about all this - as someone three years into long covid dysautonomia (and over 40 years of ME/CFS) we really feel for her and wish her some ease 💚💛🧡❤️💜

Irian Greenleaf

Tell Diana she is wonderful, and not to rush back. She’s a terrific teacher, and I’ve had so much fun learning from her, but this is just a JOB, and we just want her to be well. Everyone take care of each other.

jennifer Feldman

Yes please accept our prayers. You have done so much for STEM education and the wonder of this creation and our ability to engage with it. You and my oldest daughter resemble one another. In appearance actually. Also…. She has gotten her electrical engineering degree from the University of Illinois. The slightly ironic part is she had to take physics II twice, BUT a couple of semesters later she got an A in the semiconductor physics course, which I know is challenging. She persisted and became a good engineer. I am proud of her and I admire what you have accomplished. We owe you. Do not be sad if it takes time to recover. Take your time. Recover. It would be a weird fandom thing to say we love you, but my goodness we deeply respect you. Get well. I do work in Batavia IL if you want to come out and see our new SRF cavities or meet Lia. Get well soon.

Craig Drennan

Get well soon. We are praying for you.

Sparkles

Thanks for the update! I hope Dianna, in the near future, will be able to go through all the messages and support you got just to see and be reminded of how appreciated you and your work/videos are! Stay strong, wishing you a full and speedy recovery. You will be in our prayers! 🙏 From a fellow physics/engineering enthusiast from Sweden/Jordan/Palestine who is currently happily PhDing/Physicing :)

Mohammad Abuasbeh

Get better ♥️

I'm turning 30 this year and decided to go back to school to earn a physics degree in a large part thanks to your enthusiasm over the years, I was interested in Physics because Dianna inspired me so much. I struggled so much the 2nd half of last year with long COVID while finishing my physics degree with horrible brain fog, fatigue and extremely high blood pressure. I felt alone through much of the recovery because it was impossible to describe to people how much my brain just didn't process information that was coming into it. I cried during tests, and took hours to even look up data I needed to solve problems. I hope Long COVID is taken more seriously going forward because I went from being in the best shape of my life to barely being able to move after noon because of fatigue, having to take blood pressure medicine, and trying all sorts of different meds and supplements to try and find something that worked (rhodiola rosea helped with brain fog and fatigue but never more than 2 days in a row, antihistamines at night seemed to reduce inflammation the next day). I hope you get well soon, and thank you for everything you have done for the past decade.

Dexter Scott

Wishing you all the best for your recovery... And remember, Dianna, you're Wonder Woman! You've got this! 🙏

Diana and fam will be in our thoughts. Fight and win!

Matt

I'm a long time watcher of the channel on YouTube, and wondered why there weren't many new videos lately. I had no idea that Dianna was dealing with such debilitating health problems. Decided to support on Patreon for the foreseeable future as a way of donating towards her recovery. Really hope you get better soon Dianna. Glad you have such loving family and friends that care so much during this rough time. Get well soon honey.

I have ME/CFS and am happy to share with the family the science based resources that are available. There’s a lot of nonsense out there but a group of us are sorting it out. Here is a good start: https://cfs-me-navigator.com/treatments

Kevin Liam O'Donnell

Wishing you a full recovery. Its so hard to see someone I enjoyed watching her every video be in so much pain.

Saber Akhondi

Wish Diana a full recovery. Love her goofy style and want to see more of that. I’m here because of the Simone video too and will be here as long as it takes to get Diana back on her feet.

Percy Bell

I've been watching Dianna's videos for a long while -- probably years now. I only go after YouTube for science outreach and educational content, so her channel has naturally become a staple. Her combination of curiosity, brilliance, and enthusiasm is special and outstanding. As someone who struggles with chronic treatment resistant depression I cannot overstate how valuable it is to have access to well-sourced information presented in such an uplifting way. I look forward to every video and the thoughtful doors they open. I want to give my thanks for that, and to communicate how worthy of support Dianna's work is. There are many kinds of lifelines. I just saw Simone's video on the channel. You all taking care of Dianna deserve every bit of help you can get. Each one of you is stronger than this thing. I hope in some small way these messages of support from her viewers uplift her as she has uplifted so many of us.

Archer

my brother has ME/CFS and I know how rough it can be. Thank you to Simone and everyone for reminding me I can help here, and to everyone helping Diana right now. you've got this <3

Starchy

I was only wondering the other day that I hadn't seen much from our Physics Girl. Then Simone produced a video for you and I have joined you as a result. Best wishes xxx

Andrew Hall

One of the creator I support on Patreon became a support of Dianna. I got a notification and curiously checked as I never watched any of her video. I came across Simone's video. Sending lot of love and support to Dianna but also her loved ones. Hang in there together.

Mickaël Godard

Get better Dianna! ❤️

I knew she was not doing well. But when I saw Simone in her video just now, my heart dropped. For a second I feared the worst. I really hope for her speedy recovery. And to all of her closest. Hang in there.

Popupkiller

I am praying for your healing. You are such an inspiration and come across as a genuine kind soul. I know my membership level won't do much more than get some coffee for your husband and caretakers, but I am compelled to do something. Hang in there and never give up. There are so many of us waiting and praying for your return to health.

Jason Helmus

Diana - your army is fighting for you. Its time to win.

There is a great new scientist article about long covid today, https://www.newscientist.com/article/mg25734282-100-were-starting-to-understand-how-viruses-trigger-chronic-conditions/

Hugh Arthur

I am so sad Diana is in this condition, I sincerely hope se will get better and even though it isn’t possible to fast forward time in real life I wish that her recovery happens quickly. I also attach to this e-mail a warm hug, energy, strength, health and my best wishes of recovery.

Rémy DG

I am pulling for you all like crazy. This is awful. Plagues suck.

Jack Jesberger

This is so heartbreaking, I'm glad everyone is pulling together though. Hopefully Diana will recover soon, I can't even begin to imagine the suffering she and you as her family are going through.

WeirdyBeardy

No crying? What does the doctor say about laughing/chuckling? You're family, so you determine if this is an OK joke that she can take, or if I'm just being a jerk. We are here for PhysicsGirl, not CryBaby, and her well-being is what matters to us. I'm doing ok, so if she desires to perform retribution to the jerk who posted this, there's plenty of time, so long it's under her own power.

Dalbunosky

First off I am sending Dianne all my best wishes for a speedy recovery. Please tell her we are all sending good vibes into the universe for her. Thank you so much for keeping us updated as to how she’s doing.

There's an excellent cover article in the new Scientific American about Long COVID and promising neurological therapies being researched. https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/long-covid-now-looks-like-a-neurological-disease-helping-doctors-to-focus-treatments/

Mat Kaplan

It is heartbreaking to hear how sick she is. I can’t imagine what you all are going through. I know a few people who have had this and all have recovered from it. I pray that she recovers soon. Thank you for posting the updates and for being there for her.

Hugh Arthur

OOPS, pressed send! I graduated MIT in 1962 in Aero & Astro along with some early Astronauts. By digging for the facts, my curious mind (not unlike yours), has helped me, along with good doctors, overcome 5 life threatening problems. The sixth, is Mortality, I'm not winning that one. I'm here because I would like to donate to your care. Tell me how to donate to your GO FUND ME .

Stanley Harrison

Dianna, I suffered from a PE 20 years ago. It went undiagnosed (in northern NH) but I was lucky and my body dissolved it. Weeks later after pressure from me, the DVT was recognized and again after pressure from me ( I needed to know "why me"?), I consulted a hematologist at Mass General Hospital in Boston. A very early genetic test showed I had a genetic clotting disorder (Leiden factor V), and was put on blood thinners for the rest of my life. I feel very lucky. I do my own testing and coumadin dosing.

Stanley Harrison

Thank you for the continuing updates
