Some footage of Dianna

(Levi typing) I captured this footage about a month ago. I just made this Facebook post today helping her audience keep up with what is going on.

Honestly she is doing way better here than she has been. You can see we are still like...trying to make videos. Feels like a different world now. The following 3-4 weeks were really brutal on her. Thanks for all the suppoort guys.

Comments

I guess the medical bills can mount up quite high in the US. So Dianna and Kyle need not only the usual income to sustain their "normal" lives but also the income to pay for medical bills. I hope Simones recent update video on Diannas Channel will help with that but I also think that she can use every cent we can spare.

Meik

I think she does. There are about 36 x-ray level subscribers and lots of lower tier subscribers that will help out a lot. I suggest watching her YouTube video and adds (if someone is not on YT Premium) or put on a playlist on. It helps bring extra income to her. Even if you dont want to watch/rewatch play it on a device on low volume and put it in another room :) anything like that helps her

Nora

The fact that she is willing to document her journey just makes her a superwoman. I would not even be facetiming someone. Dianna will get better :)

Nora

Does Diana have sufficient income during her convalescence to care for herself or her family to care for her?

I just signed up, I'm not here for new content, I'm here to help Dianna until she's ready to be a kick ass science communicator again, no matter how long it takes. I'm disabled with a few chronic conditions and physical damage. We need to stand together.

A relatively recent biological discovery might help with the treatment of long covid. "In 2018, the US Food and Drug Administration listed urolithin A as a safe ingredient for food or dietary supplement products having content in the range of 250 mg to one gram per serving.". Around 2016 it was discovered urolithin A repairs/replaces damaged mitochondria.

Jeremy Baker

This is brutal, and I’m so sorry for her. I’ve had severe long Covid for three years now, and I can only hope that she gets better soon. Best thing I’ve found is just being really, really careful about how much time is spent on exhausting activities, and never allow yourself to go into the red. It gets better over time, but there really is no way to accelerate the process that I’ve found. Prayers and support for both of you guys.

Coolhandloot

(i don't know whether this is what happened here) there was an article recently about a US university where over a third of their COVID cases were long COVID

Guillaume Rossolini

Please read this report from the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition. By it's measure, urolithin A can be ingested with supplements to digest a dose that can induce mitochondrial repair, perhaps offering a cure if dysfunctional mitochondria are fixed/replaced, alleviating extreme fatigue.

Jeremy Baker

I share your skeptical posture. The interview I would like find is likely over a decade old, and the researcher was reluctant to answer the question about dose, but the NPR host kept asking. Urolithin A is not produced by the human body, but the compound triggers a cellular response for mitochondria repair/replacement. The developing question I have, having just learned about long COVID's impact upon mitochondria, is if the damaged organelle is a target for repair, not knowing what sort of dysfunction invokes a cell response. Test subjects to date have mainly been aged animals. Whatever a person does, by eating food or taking a supplement, please first talk with your doctor.

Jeremy Baker

Well, in part because you're not aware of the odds. Long COVID is frightfully common. I'm not aware of another disease which has a long form as frequently. This is much of why COVID sparked more funding for investigation into disease long forms that was quite frankly way overdue. I'm confident that a lot of people in the audience have come down with long COVID, but we don't know because we're the audience. The only way we'd find out about someone involved in this getting it is if it was someone on the production team. As such, it's no real surprise that it was one of them. Edit: oh wait, two comments down...

Some Ed

A certain amount of those scientist interviews actually interview someone who isn't a scientist, but is willing to say what the company wants. That frequently results in them leaving out crucial information like dosing... in part because there may not have actually been a study to determine what the dosing should be or if it even works. I'm not saying that's the case in this particular instance, just that what you say has the feel of those advertisement interviews.

Some Ed

It appears urolithin A supplement can be bought over the counter. I'm looking for, but have not been able to find, a radio interview with a science researcher who tested, in lab, mice with urolithin A, yielding beneficial results. The researcher answered the host's question, about bacteria and how much pomegranate would a human need to consume to mimic what was given to the mice, saying (summary), "a person would need to drink a large glass of pomegranate juice four times a day" to yield a dose of urolithin A required to invoke mitochondria repair. Unfortunately, the scientist did not state for what period of time, nor that production of urolithin A via diet can depend on several factors: ratio of bacteria living in the gut flora and the food source containing the ellagitannin concentration, the urolithin A chemical precursor. Pomegranates contain a high concentration of ellagitannins, but perhaps a supplement might be a sure way to ingest it, to see if it invokes mitochondrial repair, over several weeks/months. From a cursory read, it seems COVID impacts mitochondria DNA.

Jeremy Baker

Hello Levi. Here is a link to a brief about mitochondria repair care of urolithin A, a compound naturally derived from a type of gut bacteria when the person eats pomegranate or any food containing ellagitannins. This report cites mice studies showed a 42% increase in endurance, related to urolithin A tests. https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/311572#Urolithin-A-improved-endurance-in-elderly-mice

Just subscribed to Diannas patreon for support. Let her take all the rest she needs. "Gute Besserung!" from Germany.

Klaas

I just joined your patrion ... I always really enjoyed your videos. I sending you healing energy from my heart.

Dustin Conrad

Very sorry for what you are going through - hang in there and get all the rest you need. We're behind you 100% and will be here when you have recovered.

Rick Ashcroft

I use a lot of Physics Girl content in my high school physics class. Sure, I look forward to new content but I subscribe to your Patreon out of gratitude for all of that existing free material that helps me and my students so much. I’m not going anywhere. Thanks for the updates.

Scot Mathis

Do whatever you need to Diana. We'll be here when YOU are ready.

rayden-x

I am so sorry for you. We are all behind you

Mark Harmon

Hey, Dianna Sure miss you. At 78 yo, and a physicist of the old school, I really appreciate your tremendous efforts on our behalf. I have been fighting the long covid for over 6 months and am anxious to get back to work, so I feel for your frustration. Please, always put your health as your highest priority. I will surely stay with you on Patreon and look forward to your recovery. Thanks for all the work and to all those who help you. In the meantime, sip a cup of hot Quarks and call me in the morning.

SlcBill

It's good to see your face... but take care of yourself, my friend! Your health is so much more important than keeping us mollified!

Phil Stubblefield

Well, when she recovers, we'll have front seats to what it is like to have long COVID, her showing her story. And I also wonder how it is that, among us all, that she got long COVID. It's a case of one, yes, but perhaps someone can discover a new factor? So long she's comfortable about it, of course. This is, at minimum, a traumatic experience, after all.

Dalbunosky

Hang in there Dianna. <3

Suzanne Strickland

Miss you
