Added 2019-08-10 14:17:11 +0000 UTCAnyone with an education knows that the ruins are artificial, or at least formed by a different process than the rest of The Shell. /Most/ researchers agree that they're the husks of old buildings/machinery, but the purpose and function of any individual structure is very difficult to discern. Because ruins have very few doors, windows, railings, handholds... or anything that would suggest that their inhabitants were bipeadal, it's generally agreed that they were pretty alien in body plan. Although nobody has them pegged as "slime mold," the tubelike interiors of the ruins and lack of light fixtures or... windows/doors/etc makes "blob" a pretty popular and surprisingly accurate theory.
