Specialized education usually means being sent to study with some family that specializes in whatever you want to learn. Wanna study physics? We'll send you off to study with Tethys, they have that one guy who's really good with physics.
Universities /do/ exist, but sporadically, and mostly patronized by nameless lizards- it's a big taboo for family lizards to attend them! The only 'respectable' universities are in Solle, where the very highest learning happens, the stuff that even big, wealthy families can't provide.
