I love Casen’s jump to the camera right at the start, like his mom just caught him looking at a “Girl Next Door” magazine from FFVIII.

To be fair with FMA, Eduard can do it so fast because he has been exposed to "the Truth" of the world and he, thus, fully understands everything. Having said that... I'd be totally down for a magic system like you proposed and that explores it more deeply :) I also have a question! I just subscribed so maybe it has been asked before but here it goes: What is your take on game preservation? Lately, I feel more and more like new games do not appeal to me, which is an inconvenient since I just bought a PS5 jeje. Anyway, since I started following you, I've gotten into emulators and trying to play old games that I missed, and I think it is a shame that I have to feel like a pirate downloading ROMs/ISO/... from dubious websites. Shouldn't all these intelectual properties that are no longer sold be in a public Archive? Shouldn't apps like OpenEmu receive publics incentives instead of being paid by generous anonymous people? Just a thought.

Great podcast guys! You said something interesting that I wanted to ask about. Pertaining to Sakaguchi leaving Final Fantasy and it not being the same. I'd love to hear your thoughts about what specific things Sakaguchi added to the franchise that would be missed. Or is it more a general sense. Also with Final Fantasy being a franchise and not really a series, doesn't that mean that each iteration being different is in fact what makes these games so great? Big fan, happy to see you reach all your goals in the future

Yeah. Sadly, the people who get put in charge of big-budget productions usually AREN'T hired because they understand the IP and its appeal; they get hired simply because they know how to make something look MARKETABLE, quality be damned (basically the sole reason for Zack Snyder's career).

A thought I had after recording is that Denis Villeneuve did a great job with Blade Runner 2049 as well. It's certainly not impossible, but I don't think it's very common.

While the death / departure of the creator of a work will definitely affect further entries, I definitely disagree with the idea that it's inherently going to mean that something can't capture the spirit of the original. This topic has been beaten to death on these podcasts, but you can look to Nintendo for an example of a company that has consistently managed to hand off old IP to new talent without losing the spirit (and, in the case of something like Breath of the Wild, singularly re-capturing the spirit from the original). Obviously Miyamoto isn't gone, but he has slipped into an executive role, having very little to do with the games being made. Similarly, looking at Final Fantasy, I would say that XIV has re-captured the old Final Fantasy feeling more than any entry since IX and it's unique in that almost none of the development staff worked with Sakaguchi. Nomura, Kitase, etc., all worked on Sakaguchi's games, but Yoshida, Ishikawa, etc., didn't, and they managed to capture those feelings much more accurately. Maybe the secret is just picking people to continue the story based on competence and not whether or not they had a credit on the IP in the past.
