Podcast Questions!

You know the drill. We got a podcast tomorrow. What should we talk about?

Podcast Questions!

It just happened again. And ok. Then I won't repost it a third time, lol.

Yeah I've had others say the same thing. I have absolutely no idea why it happens, but I got your message in an email so no problems.

The heck? My question was deleted. This is the 2nd time this has happened on here. This also happened 2 months ago.

Unfortunately I haven't spent much time with visual novels. I've played every game in the Phoenix Wright series, but that's the limit of my experience with the genre. There is certainly a possibility to cover more of them in the future. -Mike

Since I know Dark Pixel is really into covering story driven games on the channel, and now you guys aren't exclusively going to talk about JRPGs anymore, whats your take on visual novel type games? Games like Stein's Gate are full on visual novel and have very little gameplay, and games like Life is Strange and Zero Escape offer substantially more game-play aspects to them. There's also all the Tell-Tale series games. I'm really into these type of games for their stories and I'm wondering if you guys have played any of these types of games and whether you like them or not?

That's a really tough question to answer, and nothing springs to my mind immediately aside from CD Projekt Red--but that's not because I have any reason to believe they have something to offer to the genre as much as I just trust them to do excellent work. Sorry I wish I had better insight to offer. -Mike

I'll put up an update video here on Patreon in a little bit to update you guys! -Mike

I wish big time that I could walk around Zeal from Chrono Trigger and take in the sights! I wouldn't mind taking a stroll on the citadel from Mass Effect either, or the Gaur Plains from Xenoblade! -Mike

Landon has stepped away from the channel altogether, but will occasionally appear on podcasts. I can only speak for myself here, but I have never been bothered by religions appearing as corrupt in Japanese video games even when I was religious. To me it's ultimately just a story--fictional--and has never offended me whether the intent really was to disparage Christians or not. That being said, as I've gotten older and understood the cultural and historical influence (why Japanese people seem to feel that way about organized religion and particularly western religions) I absolutely understand why there is a certain connotation there and can respect it. -Mike

I enjoyed your response last week about what makes a good HD remake. Turning this around, what games (if any) would you enjoy seeing a demake for, like FFXV Pocket Edition, or something resembling the FFXIII-2 16-bit story recap video? Similarly, what traits would you value in a demake that would make it a distinct product from the original?

In regards to your FFXI play through and review. What was the straw the broke the camel's back? Was it a combination of things or just the nature of the grind? If you are done with the game for the foreseeable future, what were some of your favorite things about it? Gameplay, music, characters, etc.

Favourite locations from games? Whether it be somewhere you just like to spend time in game, or a location where you love the quests etc which take place there. Some that come to mind for me are Lake Hylia from Twilight Princess, the De'Arnise Keep from Baldur's Gate 2, and The Millennial Fair from Chrono Trigger

Can you tell us any more about the rebranding yet? 👀 I think a few of us are pretty excited for you guys! 😂

Are there any developers who you would like to see enter the RPG, particularly retro-style RPG market? In the same vein we have seen some traditionally RPG series do offshoots into different genres (Dissidia for example) are there any series you would like to see an RPG take on them?

Responding to your tweet about Final Fantasy XI, how would feel about Square releasing the game as a stand alone title with more stream lined gameplay? Would you be willing to play through the game at that point for the story, or are you soured on the entire experience at this point? Speaking more broadly, how would you feel about MMOs being reworked and released as single player titles after their servers shut down? I think this would be a good way to preserve the games for historical and artistic purposes, but would they even be the same games with the multiplayer component removed?

Playing through octopath and its method of story delivery has got me thinking about how some games tell their stories. Some have a more linear and plot focused story, with the focus more on whats happening around the characters. Examples of the top of my head include octopath, ff4, and golden sun. While other games, and my personal preference, put a much larger focus on character interaction, and generally have those interactions drive the plot. Examples include the tales series, xenoblade, trails in the sky, and maybe even some of the later ff's like 10 and 13. My question s are, which ones do you guys like to see? Which ones are easily or more successful to execute? Are there other ways to deliver stories that you prefer more? Thanks as always

Two questions: this first one may have been spoken to already but I have been incredibly busy with work and missed some episodes of the podcast so: has Landon taken a break from the channel or is he no longer going to be involved period? Second question: I know all three of you have mentioned you grew up in very religious homes, how, if at all, did that affect your spiritual beliefs? I know Christianity or a stand in for it are often portrayed in a particularly negative light (FFT for example) do you feel as though that influenced you at all? Coming from a non-religious background it's something which I've always been curious of.
