Idk about that, because we also saw kurapika and the gang cover their ears also. I think they just knew when he inhaled and it was weaker by the time it reach kurapika in the gang that it didn't affect them as much and allowed them to cover their ears to defend against the full sound attack.

The skull fragment trick was probably enhancement. That's what Hisoka does to his cards and Wing did to that piece of paper. The top guy also enhanced his tops to make them stronger.

The skull fragment Uvo spits out is coated with nen, which can be categorized as emission, another example seen by Franklin in the last episode, which is why it goes through the guys hand whether or not he used nen. (Uvo may have also mixed enhancement cuz he was spitting at bullet speed lol) But srsly...the way togashi shows all the creative ways enhancers can fight in this ep, which at a glance seems the most inflexible form of nen, is amazing.

Awesome guys! I dont know if anyone already wrote this but a fun little fact is stated in this episode. When uvo said that "you had plenty of time to cover your ears before the sound reach to you" he is telling us that the guys from the troupe move faster than sound. Which is cool to know

nen is going to get kinda complex from now on. limitation is power, the harder the condition, the more powerful nen becomes, and, if you break that condition, theres a self imposed consequence. how harsh the consequence is, will also determine who powerful you can become. kurapika put his life on the line to protect his limitation (of only using his powers agaist the phantom troupe), thats why his abilities become stronger then they would normaly be.

What a reaction (Hisoka SWCHING face) Nen works similar to the equivalent exchange principle. The more you put yourself at a disadvantage the stronger your nen is because you are increasing your risk. Also how unique and awesome are the phantom troupe? Absolutely terrifying band of murderers but feel and act like a family with each other.

my constant refreshing paid off!!! your reactions to these 2 eps have me super excited for your reaction to the rest of this arc and the show in general even more now! this was the arc that really made me fully invested, not that i didn't like the show before then, i think it's a very solid shounen show before this arc happened but aside from the intro of nen i wasn't entirely sure what it was about the show that had certain anime friends of mine, who tend to have the same aversion to shounen shows as me, go to bat for this one unlike other similar shows like it and this arc made me go "okay i get it now".
