I highly recommend checking out Red Dwarf actually - the first season is so/so but after that it gets fantastic. And being a UK comedy, there's only 6 episodes per season. And yeah, Matt Lucas is very well known in the UK, especially for Little Britain.

I was actually at comic con when season 4 happened and they were there so the only reason at the time it was slightly disappointing was because Matt Smith met the cast and writers and were close to possibly having the doctor appear on a show desperately fighting for ratings.
