to make a gun you need to have the appropriate amounts of the combination of metals you want to use (or another material base you can transform chemically into metal), know how to heat them through alchemy to create the shape, know where to place each piece, and place them well enough that it is a functional weapon. m The Fire&Blood alchemist specialized in weaponry to create cannon and huge firepower guns. He was killed by Scar early on. Roy has to understand how fire works, but also environmental factors like the surrounding temperature, humidity, oxygen to not burn the wrong target because of a sudden wind change or something. m That is why I believe most alchemist stick to one major form of alchemy. Most weapons are swords, staffs, or small shell artillery (Armstong makes the torpedos and uses his strength to cast them at the enemy) The only characters I can think of in comparison are from My Hero Academia.

Chris you are right. With alchemy you need to understand the chemistry, physical attributes, and mechanics behind whatever you what to use and create. You make nothing out of nothing. You trade in to get something out. For example to "create ammonia gas" Ed deconstructed the wet dynamite sticks to free the ammonia to sensory attack. In theory, you should be able to create a human (using chemistry components C,N,Fe, etc of the human body) but only the body shell. Because like it said in the first episode "what is the value of a human soul?" The philosopher stone made of souls defies the law of give and take.
