[Early Access] Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood - Episode 30 The Ishvalan War of Extermination - Reaction!

Comments

A very deep insightful episode into the massacre that was the extermination of the Ishvalans.

Aras Paty

Yeah I think they even know it, but I don’t th8nk they can perform it.

WB

Great to see them enjoying the show still, are they doing the OVAs too? I think they might really add some background information for the show. If they do watch them Blind Wave did them in the correct order I think, if you need to know when to watch which one.

Yes, then after the war, Hawkeye asked Mustang to burn her back as to destroy the research. She didn't want there to be another flame alchemist.

Sou saetern

Not sure but I don't think the homunculi can use alchemy they can regenerate and have a skill but can't recall any using alchemy Maybe there is one later

If you guys thought this was a brutal episode with mature themes, you need to read the manga. This is basically the cliffs notes version, highly condensed. Some of the stuff they left out gets adapted elsewhere (for instance the Scar flashback in episode 22 was originally shown here) but a good chunk of it just never gets adapted. You see more of Winrys parents, Dr Knox and Marcoh, more of Mustangs motivations, and even Basque Gran (the guy with the Wario mustache and gauntlets who got killed by Scar in the beginning of the series) gets some development.

I mean, we barely knew anything about Kimblee before this episode anyway lol

Shockzz1234

I gotta give you that one to you @Amed lmao that was pure gold

This is the episode that made me start really liking Kimblee as a character. He has such interesting views on things, even if he is a tad psycho.

If you guys want more details about the Ishvalan War of Extermination, I would recommend reading the manga, chapters (57) 58, 59, 60, 61, (62). More details about Winry's parents, Hughes' Squadron, Dr. Knox, etc.

@Lavota Carter You've pointed out so many interesting things D: thank you!

But please look at soterianyx's work on the tattoo. She is the most thorough I have ever seen anywhere on the internet. The tattoo is the workings of Flame Alchemy. Hawkeye Sr. created it but didn't live long enough to implement it. He told Mustang to go to Riza and take care of her, because she was the one who could allow Mustang the last stages to Flame Alchemy. She would make the decision of his worthiness.

Not sure if it was the creator's intention but Executive Order 9066 was the order to detain all Japanese-Americans and descendants after Pearl Harbor. So the extermination order for Ishval in a Japanese manga is numbered 3066. maybe coincidence but I always found it interesting.

Lavota Carter

Hey. If you are interested in the tattoo look at this woman's work. She went and researched each piece of the tattoo. http://soterianyx.tumblr.com/post/74925554706/soterianyxs-analysis-and-interpretation-of-riza

Omg right at lunch today, this is a treat 👍

Jcw490

Yeah, the Ishvalans put up a strong resistance for 7 YEARS. As others mentioned they were very well armed. Then came the extermination. I hope they read the comments.

Suraj: "Peace is not an option at all?" Well no, not when your leader is called "Wrath."

Frankie H

In the manga, this episode is an entire volume, where most episodes are 1-2 chapters. They compressed a LOT. Some of it covers things you were asking about--the Ishvalans did have guns and guerilla fighters, plus other factions in the eastern part of the country took advantage of the situation to rebel. Also neighboring countries that opposed Amestris didn't send troops, but they did smuggle in weapons and supplies for the Ishvalans. Finally, the terrain of Ishval was all desert and mountains, which favors defenders over invaders. So it's not unbelievable they could hold out for a long time or cause heavy losses to the Amestrian troops.

holy shit, an upload before noon time? They probably uploaded this in Japan because it's around midnight over there lol

Oh man, this was a good one

Chronicler

Roll.. tide... WAR DAMN EAGLE!

Noah Burke

They had 7 years of nonstop war THEN the order came. Its like trying to end it before the war spread even more. Also its telling how Hawkeye didn't argue with him because deep down she knew he was telling truth. Kimbly is the most honest realist in the show.

PKKite

Preciate this AJ man (or Suraj) but i think it's AJ. You're awesome
