As established before all homonculi have philosopher stones inside them and that is their fuel, that's why they're "Immortal" until the whole stone energy is expended. Ling asked Envy how many people were inside because as we know the philosopher stone is composed of human souls. And about the skeleton inside Gluttony, that's the priest as everybody and their mother already said.

2018-05-10 00:46:20 +0000 UTCWhen Ling asks 'how many people are inside you' to Envy and Gluttony, he's referring to their philosopher's stones. Remember that the ingredients to make a stone includes live humans? So to kill a homunculus, you just have to kill them enough times to exhaust the number of lives that went into the stone (as Mustang did when he burned Lust over and over till she ran out). Otherwise they'll just live out the years of however many people were put into it. I noticed you guys were getting confused over that when it came up. Hope that helped!
