[Early Access] The Punisher - 1x11 Danger Close - Group Reaction

Wow what an episode!  We finally get to see John Bernthal dive completely into Punisher mode and wreak havoc on some poor Red shirts!  I thought the action sequence at the end was awesome!  It was really fun to see Frank's ingenuity and agility in the way he took them all down.  We know that some critics thought the show was too violent... and yes, while Frank may have strapped a grenade to a severed head to take out 3 red shirts....ITS THE PUNISHER, I MEAN CMON!  What do you normies think, is the show too violent?  Should they tone it down for season 2?

And how do you feel about Russo (without spoiling anything).  I still don't understand why he's turned on Frank since they were friends long ago and I don't know if I like his motivations for being the bad guy.  If money and nice things are his motivation for being evil then it kind of makes him seem a little one dimensional to me.  I could be wrong, what are your opinions on Russo?  But please, no spoilers!

My problem was that they inserted the Senator guy to argue for gun control except they made him a dumbass. No nuance whatsoever. Karen is the NRA's wet dream.

Maybe it’s because I’m desensitized as the next millennial, but I think most of the critics who railed against this show because of the gun violence were probably very well intentioned, anti-gun (violence) liberals.

I’m a leftist who is for guns, but very much for certain gun reform, and I don’t think it glorifies guns, personally, but I do think it came out at a time where if you’re going to have a shit load of gun violence portrayed, you also need to be making a pointed comment/subtext against gun violence. Otherwise it’s construed as either normalized or glorified, and neither are okay in the political climate right now.

I expected nothing less than vigilante violence from The Punisher and if we weren't given that, I would have hated the show. Critics who were bitching about that are fucking stupid...that's why I rarely read or put much importance on "professional" critics' review anymore. If they are diametrically opposed to what makes the Punisher, THE Punisher, they should have rescinded themselves from reviewing the show to begin with because, as Frankie H mentioned above, a lot of them missed the point of the show. I'm glad the audience ignored them and still liked the show. As for Russo, I wish it was more of a surprise, and yeah, I do agree with you, I don't like or even buy his motivation for being a bad guy. I needed more than what we were shown.

I think the punisher got mixed reviews because tv and film critics aren't crazy about a vigilante with guns. There's a lot of nuance in the punisher and critics didn't give the show credit for that. But most viewers really loved it. 93% audience rating on rotten tomatoes. It will get a second season.
