They was literally shocked and pressed up against the wall in an uncomfortable position. It's not about being politically correct, except a train a group of individuals in a appropriate light.

The use of Native Americans as magical beings who know who dying based on a shooting star, and using a trans individuals body as shock value for the audience and Faye. Coupled with Faye's "which one are you?!" We can see how far we've come in this regard. At least, maybe not in anime.
