Couple of points: the Pentaprism page was there before but at some point it had disappeared, so don’t feel like you made a bad mistake as it was there. As you saw in the week I tried to get Abroad in Japan interested in what you are doing as he has over 2.4 million subscribers on YouTube. I think if you could get one of these big hitters interested in talking to you about idol it could give you exposure to a very large audience and potential customers. Perhaps some of the others here know of other “influencers” that might be worth trying/approaching. I think the signed cheki is a good incentive however as Romy says instead of first 10 only, and then sales stop, either offer all signed or random luck of the draw, or perhaps buy one of each member and you are guaranteed to get at least one signed cheki but it would be random who you got. I’ve collected trading cards in the past and the fun was opening packs and pulling a autograph card even if you didn’t know who you’d get, but because it was from a tv show you loved it didn’t matter. Codomomental groups have posted some YouTube videos of them playing games, such as The Werewolf Game, unfortunately they aren’t subtitled but might give some ideas of what could be done with idols you have links with

Hi Derek! You make a good point about the variety show. It’s an amazing idea but very ambitious and maybe not the thing you need right now. Like you said, the cheki sessions are the best for connecting us to the idols. But perhaps for some people that don’t like/know certain groups it might be too much of an ‘investment’ to buy cheki and see if they like the session/group or not. How about making a small video as marketing for each idol group before a cheki session? When you put out the tickets for sale for a cheki session, the idol(s) records a small 30 second video announcing the cheki session. Maybe saying 3 random facts about herself/the group. For groups that have already done cheki sessions before, maybe you can make a small video showing some of the funniest moments from their previous cheki sessions. Maybe this will convince people to buy because they already started a connection to the group/idol before the cheki session. A lottery/gift might also be fun. Let’s say for every 5 cheki you buy for a cheki session, you get one ticket into the lottery. At the end of the cheki session, one ticket is randomly chosen and the winner gets a small gift that relates to the group. You could even do it that just one cheki bought will get you entry to the lottery to lower the threshold, but I think 5 is more profitable. I also agree there is potential to find new fans and customers in the mainstream idol or just general otaku culture. Unfortunately planning a performance at an anime convention is practically impossible right now but maybe there are other ways to reach foreign otaku’s? I’ll try to brainstorm to think of a way to do that. I also think it’d be nice if you could find a group that you could promote the hell out of and work together with lots, just like MBE. You’re incredible at creating a fanbase for idols and I think the IU fans could/want a new group to obsess over. The problem is of course that like you’ve said, there is no loyalty in idol so finding a group that’s willing to do as much as MBE did might be difficult, but who knows, maybe you have one on the site right now that is good to work with for this. I also think the themed cheki sessions or themed cheki sets on the site would be a nice income. You still do it with Miho’s gravure sets and those sell well, I believe, but I feel like you had more of them back in the day. Especially when the first 10 are signed, I felt like it really made people want to buy them. There’s always the risk of left over stock once the first 10 have been sold, so maybe instead of the first ten you could make it random who gets a signed set. I think two things that make people spend money is gacha and limited/rare/special edition stuff. Love as always, Romy

When it comes to variety stuff, back in 2017 Necroma did a 24 hour streaming thing on the day of a show - they went out and bought breakfast, cooked it (Rei burnt the marshmallows), etc. The pre-show routine was really interesting to me, and it was just a really relaxing Sunday watch. Honestly, that was a huge part of what got me invested in the group. This might be hard to do since you've got other duties on the show day, but it's a thought. When it comes to streaming, I've been on Twitch twice weekly for most of this year - if you ever need help setting up OBS Studio or something, feel free to ask. If you're looking for a device to hook up your 4K camera to your laptop, you probably want something like the Elgato Cam Link 4K - I don't know if there's a good, cheaper alternative?: https://www.elgato.com/en/cam-link-4k For expanding the reach of the idols, have you tried offering idol interviews to Japanese culture magazines like Otaku USA, or Neo in the UK? You wouldn't necessarily have to write it up yourself, just arrange a video call for them and maybe interpret. They're outside of my company so I'm not allowed to pitch them like I did with Metal Hammer, but publications are often looking for content and will often plug your stuff in exchange.
