We're Almost 12!

Hi Patrons,

This Friday the site will turn 12 years old. I'm writing my "State of the Blog"  post now. Any questions you'd like to see answered?

Also, we're going to be spending September re-visiting No Man's Sky, just in case you were going to ask about that.

Also, here's a fun fact I need to share for the purposes of disclosure:

My wife helps run a Facebook support group for Christian mothers who "unschool" (school without strict curriculum) their kids. I've suggested they rename "unschool" to "hippie freestyle" but nobody listens to my suggestions. 

There are a lot of these kinds of educational support groups on FB, but hers is a little unusual. Secular home education groups don't care for all the religion talk, and the Christian homeschool groups don't care for all this laissez-faire hippie crap. So this group is for a really obscure sub-genre of parenting. It's like having a group for Vegetarian Leather-workers. There's no real reason those two things CAN'T go together, but they usually don't.

Anyway, my wife and her friends started their own Patreon so the moms in the group could pitch in. For fun, I threw a dollar in.  What I didn't realize was that Patreon was going to broadcast this to ALL of my followers "SHAMUS IS NOW GIVING MONEY TO A RELIGIOUS EDUCATION GROUP, JUST THOUGHT YOU SHOULD KNOW! BYE!"

Ugh.  Social media is strange and gossipy sometimes. 

I have NO idea why Patreon would think that's something I'd want automatically broadcasted.

So if you were wondering what that announcement was, that's where it came from. I wasn't looking to make a political / social / religious statement. I was just giving my wife a dollar. 

Maybe you cared about that, maybe you didn't, but someone complained so I thought I'd address it.

Oh, and while I'm open to questions for the blog, I'm not going to handle questions about that stuff. I'm not looking to broadcast it even MORE.
