"I fucking love horror fans" is what my brain kept repeating throughout Beyond Fest's opening night, which definitely cured some of the Fantastic Fest FOMO I've been feeling watching my lovely horror friends skydive without me (phew!) My other lovely horror friend April and I got to see the new Salem's Lot with the best crowd, though. It's one of the rare times everyone in the theater laughs with us during scary, messed up scenes.

The horror community is not just a place where all the weirdos hang out. We all grew up understanding how difficult existence can be and we found solace in filmmakers making art out of life and death. Horror is a genre that relies on honesty and waking us up from the mitote. It forces us to face our mortality and our inner demons. As a kid, I was fascinated with everyone from Freddy Krueger to Annie Wilkes. How did these characters become so messed up? Was it the worst kind of mommy and daddy issues? And would we rather deal with those monsters than the real life villains and fascists we fight every day?

I've always felt that fictional villains were the darkest parts of the humans that created them. There's a reason why I loved the Joker so much as a kid. I'm not saying I ever wanted to cause someone harm, but I certainly understood his need to create chaos out of a world that never cared for him. It's fascinating that he became as popular as The Beatles, and I think it's because most of us who aren't monsters understand how society can make you lose your mind.

So that's why I'm so fucking grateful for horror fans. You get me. You get that society is stupid and we must tell the truth. Whether it's through art, at our jobs, or with our families and friends. You get that we need to call out the bullshit. So we don't go crazy and make sure others don't turn into monsters.

Speaking of monsters, spooky season is here! Will Joker 2 be as divisive as the first one? Probably. What's not divisive is the fact that DJ Bruja Radio is back! Here's what's in store for Season 2 including the October slate:

DJ Bruja Radio 🎧
10/7 Pop en español
10/14 Metal
10/21 Horror Movies
10/28 Halloween Party

The show is now on Monday nights at 6 pm PT on Mixcloud. Instead of just radio episodes, there will be full DJ parties at the end of each month. Patrons will be getting extended tracklists. Listeners can requests songs through streamlabs, and I might even have people call in so shit can get weird.

What's going on for the coven in October? We got a 30 Day Horror Challenge and a Horror Movie Draft happening in the Discord. As always, there will be listening parties, movie watchalongs, and Q&A hangs. Plus thirst traps, tarot readings, and all the benefits easily findable in collections.

Did you see my The Substance review? I'm dying to hear your thoughts on the movie. There's also a Horror Nights vlog coming soon, and I'm streaming on YouTube sometimes talking about my favorite artists like Chappell Roan. Finally, April and I started a silly thing called the Horror Hos on Instagram, if you wanna see us eat influencers.

Wishing you all a beautiful spooky October with many sexy blessings and amazing horror movies. Regardless of the chaos of the world, enjoy the shit out of the best month of the year and thank you for being the coolest coven in this dimension ❤️
